SILICON VALLEY (HBO) - The comedy pilot - set in the high-tech gold rush of modern Silicon Valley, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success - has scored a series commitment at the pay channel. Mike Judge, John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky are all behind the half-hour, which was also directed by Judge. The ensemble cast includes Amanda Crew, Angela Trimbur, Christopher Evan Welch, Josh Brener, Kumail Nanjiani, Lindsey Broad, T.J. Miller, Thomas Middleditch and Zach Woods. Michael Rotenberg, Scott Rudin and Tom Lassally also serve as executive producers. (Deadline.com)

AND IN OTHER NEWS... - ABC's recently-axed "Happy Endings" appears "unlikely" to get a new home at USA, while the network's "Paging Dr. Freed" pilot remains under consideration even though the cast options have lapsed (Deadline.com); Amazon has passed on series orders for its comedy pilots "Browsers" and "Zombieland" (Deadline.com); Donald Todd has joined ABC's midseason drama "Mind Games" as an executive producer (Deadline.com); David Eick will succeed Remi Aubuchon as showrunner of "Falling Skies" should TNT order a fourth season (Deadline.com); Bob Daily and Tad Quill are both bound for CBS's new comedy "We Are Men" as an executive producer and consulting producer, respectively, as the result of overall deals with producer CBS Television Studios (Deadline.com); Josh Friedman has inked a two-year overall deal with Universal Television where he'll serve as a co-executive producer on NBC's "Crossbones" (Deadline.com); and producers of "The Carrie Diaries" are currently casting for its incarnation of Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall in "Sex and the City" (TVLine.com).
