BLACKSMITH (NBC, New!) - Jeff Wadlow has sold a small screen take on Malik Evans and Richard Sparkman's graphic novel to the Peacock. The project centers on Alex Malloy, "known in the intelligence community for building high-tech weapons for U.S. government agencies. When he discovers some of the files containing his weapon designs have fallen into the wrong hands, he sets off on a journey to recover the files before his weapons are used for harm." Michael Schreiber, Jon Shestack, Jeremy Stein, Bob Sobhani, Samantha Shear and Jason Netter will also executive produce for Studio71, Kickstart, and Universal Television. (Deadline.com)
DAN THE WEATHERMAN/MEAN JEAN (FOX) - The network has passed on both comedy pilots, which along with the now ABC-bound "Bless This Mess," were under consideration for midseason. Leah Remini starred in "Mean Jean," from Rob McElhenney and Rob Rosell, about a woman (Remini), her ex-husband (Rob Riggle) and her new wife (Kaitlin Olson) who work together to raise a family in middle America. And Thomas Lennon played the title role in "Dan the Weatherman," which was being reshot after some recasting. (Deadline.com)
DETROITERS (Comedy Central) - Sam Richardson revealed on social media the cable channel has passed on a third season for the series. 301,000 viewers (195,000 adults 18-49) tuned into the de facto finale on August 16 in Live+3 ratings. (@SamRichardson)
GOLIATH (Amazon) - The streaming service has commissioned a third season of the Billy Bob Thornton-led series, due in 2019. Additionally, Dennis Quaid, Amy Brenneman, Beau Bridges, Griffin Dunne, Sherilyn Fenn and Shamier Anderson have signed on for the new season, in which "the unexpected death of an old friend leads Billy McBride (Thornton) to take a case in the drought-stricken Central Valley where he comes face-to-face with a new Goliath: a billionaire rancher (Quaid) and his sister (Brenneman)." MODERN FAMILY (ABC) - Co-stars Ed O'Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara are reportedly close to new deals to return for an 11th season of at least 18 episodes. Preliminary conversations are underway with co-creators Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd as well as fellow cast members Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould and Rico Rodriguez to likewise be back. (Deadline.com)
NEW YORK UNDERCOVER (ABC) - The Alphabet has given the proposed reboot series a pilot production commitment. Specifics about the new incarnation however remain under wraps. (Deadline.com)
SUGAR AND TOYS (Fuse, New!) - Carl Jones and Brian Ash are set to team for the cable channel's first adult animation title, which "sends up toy commercials and PSAs, tackling a range of social issues and featuring bookended host segments with rapper and actor Kyle Harvey." This is Just a Test and 245 Enterprises are behind the half-hour with Aengus James and Colin King Miller also serving as executive producers; Harvey as a co-executive producer; and Lalo Alcaraz as a consulting producer.
