CLEANERS, THE (Amazon, New!) - Dominic Orlando is spearheading a potential drama for Amazon Studios based on the sci-fi short story by Ken Liu which "tells how, in the near future, inanimate objects carry the memories of people's experiences, and a certain number of the population have the ability to relive those memories by touch. Cleaners are specialists hired to sanitize the objects and relieve emotional burdens these memories may hold. At the center of this story is a young man who inherits his family's cleaning business, and takes on a mysterious new commission." The project will be executive produced by Orlando, Liu and Amazing Owl Productions' Orlando Bloom and Adam Karasick. (Deadline.com)
KUNG FU (The CW) - Tony Chung has joined the cast of the reboot series as Dennis Soong, "the beloved son of the wealthy Soong family, Althea's fiancé Dennis is coasting on being the hot and popular guy after growing out of his nerdy high school "mathlete" persona. He's breezed through his 20s on his effortless charm, good looks and money, making him the perfect trophy husband for Althea. Dennis is utterly besotted by Althea, and he sees only smooth sailing ahead. But clashes between their families (and a few of their own long-buried secrets) threaten to ruin their perfect engagement... and to tear them apart on their way to the altar." (Deadline.com)
LAW & ORDER: SVU (NBC) - Demore Barnes, who recurs as Deputy Chief Christian Garland, will return as a series regular for the show's upcoming 22nd season. (Deadline.com)
LUMBERJANES (HBO Max, New!) - The streaming service is in negotiations to land an animated project based on the Boom! Studios comic book series created by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooklyn A. Allen and Noelle Stevenson, about "five rad, butt-kicking best pals determined to have an awesome summer together... and they're not gonna let a magical quest or an array of supernatural critters get in their way." Stevenson would pen the project as part of a script-to-series commitment with an eye towards an hour-long special to launch. Stevenson, Ross Richie and Stephen Christy are the executive producers with Watters, Ellis, Allen and Mette Norkjaer as co-executive producers. (Deadline.com)
MAID (Netflix) - Raymond Ablack will recur on the upcoming drama as Nate, "a recently divorced structural engineer and old friend of Alex (Margaret Qualley) from their days working together at a local restaurant." (Variety.com)
RAISED BY WOLVES (HBO Max) - Creator Aaron Guzikowski has signed an overall deal with the company, home to his recently renewed sci-fi drama. (Deadline.com)
SQUEAKY CLEAN (Quibi) - Leslie Jordan has been tapped to host the cleaning competition series. He'll be joined by Sabrina Soto, "who will serve as the resident cleaning and organization expert." 51 Minds Entertainment has likewise come aboard to produce the project with Christian Sarabia, Dean Houser and Nicole Elliott as executive producers. (Variety.com)
UNTITLED ESSENCE MAGAZINE PROJECT (HBO Max, New!) - Shukree Tilghman and Jessica Rambo are developing a period drama series at the streaming service billed as the origin story of Essence magazine: "Set amid the changing social and cultural landscape of post-civil rights era America, the series is inspired by the relationships between the men who founded the iconic women's magazine, Essence, and the women who were the creative force behind it, as they create something mainstream America has never seen before." Edward Lewis, the co-founder of Essence magazine, will executive produce alongside said duo, Kronicle Media's Korin Williams and Monique Nash, and 5 More Minutes Productions' John Sacchi and Matt Groesch. (Deadline.com)
VANCOUVER TV PRODUCTIONS (Various) - "Riverdale," "Batwoman" and "Maid" are the latest Vancouver-based to resume production after receiving the delayed COVID-19 tests for their casts and crews. (Deadline.com)
