BURBANK, Calif. � December 12, 2006 � NBC won its second consecutive week in primetime's key demographic of adults 18-49, averaging a 3.8/10 in 18-49 and 10.2 million viewers overall for the week of December 4-10, according to "live plus same day" in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.
NBC was the only network to exhibit growth in adults 18-49 versus the same week last year. Compared with the 12th week of last season, NBC this week was up 23 percent in adults 18-49 (3.8 vs. 3.1), up 13 percent in adults 25-54 (4.3 vs. 3.8), up 32 percent in adults 18-34 (3.3 vs. 2.5) and up 9 percent in total viewers (10.2 million vs. 9.4 million). This marks the seventh consecutive week that NBC has improved on its 18-49 rating for the same week last year.
NBC also ranked #1 this week in the valuable demographic of adults 18-34, and was the only network showing growth in that demographic versus the same week last year (up 32 percent). NBC is also the only network showing growth season-to-date among adults 18-34, up 19 percent versus the first 12 weeks of last season (3.1 vs. 2.6).
"Heroes" was the #1 new series of the week in adults 18-49, 18-34, 25-54 and total viewers. Among all 104 ranked programs this week, "Heroes" finished #3 in primetime's key demographic of adults 18-49, trailing only "NBC Sunday Night Football" and "CSI." In adults 18-34, "Heroes was #2 (trailing only "Sunday Night Football"), among adults 25-54 it ranked #3 and in overall total viewers it ranked #6 among all network telecasts.
The "NBC Sunday Night Football" telecast of the New Orleans Saints versus the Dallas Cowboys was the #1 program of the week in adults 18-49 and adults 18-34 and the #2 telecast in adults 25-54 and total overall viewers.
Overall, NBC had five of the top 10 and nine of the top 20 programs of the week in primetime's key demographic of adults 18-49, with "NBC Sunday Night Football" (#1), "Heroes (#3), "ER" (#4), "Deal or No Deal" and "NBC Sunday Night Football-Pre Kickoff" (#7 tied), "My Name is Earl (#12), "The Biggest Loser," "Football Night in America 3" and "Scrubs" (#16 tied).
"Heroes" ranks as the season's #1 new series in the key demographics of adults 18-34, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, as well as in total viewers. In adults 18-49 season-to-date, "Heroes" ranks #5 among all 127 programs, trailing only "Grey's Anatomy," "Desperate Housewives," "CSI" and "Lost." In adults 18-34 season-to-date, "Heroes" is the #3 show on television, behind only "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives."
For the first 12 weeks of the 2006-07 television season, NBC is the only network showing year-to-year gains in adults 18-49. NBC is up 15 percent versus the same period last year (3.8 rating versus 3.3). In that same comparison, ABC is down 2 percent, CBS is down 5 percent and Fox is down 6 percent. Season-to-date in total viewers only NBC and ABC are showing gains year-to-year. NBC is up 10 percent versus the opening 12 weeks of the last season (10.3 million vs. 9.4 million). ABC is up 4 percent by that measure, while CBS is down 5 percent and Fox is down 2 percent.
Primetime averages for the week of December 4-10 in adults 18-49 were NBC (3.8/10), CBS (3.5/10), ABC (2.9/8), Fox (2.4/7), Univision (1.5/4), CW (1.4/4) and Telemundo (0.4/1). In overall total viewers the weekly averages were CBS (11.7 million), NBC (10.2 million), ABC (8.4 million), Fox (6.1 million), Univision and CW (3.6 million) and Telemundo (0.9 million).
NBC highlights for the week of December 4-10:
NBC won Monday night in adults 18-49 for the 10th time in 12 weeks this season, and in total viewers for the fourth time this season. "Heroes" was the #1 show on television Monday night in adults 18-49 and "Deal or No Deal" was television's #1 show of the night in total viewers.
On Monday, "Heroes" dominated its time period in adults 18-49, total viewers and all key measures. In 18-49, "Heroes" topped its nearest competitors, ABC's' "Supernanny," by 71 percent.
Also on Monday, "Deal or No Deal" ruled its time period, with a 70 percent advantage over its nearest competitor in 18-49 and a winning margin of 9.5 million in overall total viewers (versus ABC's second-place "Wife Swap"). Monday's "Deal" ranked #3 among all programs this week in overall total viewers (17.4 million). It also ranked in the week's top 10 in adults 18-49 (#7, tie) and in adults 25-54 (#5).
On Tuesday, an encore "Law & Order: SVU" ranked #1 in adults 18-49 and other key demographics versus original competition on ABC ("Boston Legal") and CBS ("Victoria's Secret Fashion Show").
On Wednesday, "The Biggest Loser" hit new season-high ratings, delivering its highest 18-49 and total viewer results since November 29, 2005. "Loser" won the hour in adults 18-49 and adults 18-34.
On Thursday, a one-hour "My Name is Earl" delivered season-high ratings in adults 18-49 and total viewers. "My Name is Earl" ranked #12 among all programs this week in adults 18-34.
Also on Thursday, "30 Rock" hit a new series-high rating in adults 18-49. "30 Rock" was up 19 percent in 18-49 and 15 percent in total viewers versus the prior week.
Additionally, "Scrubs" on Thursday was the most-watched telecast of the acclaimed comedy since Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004. "Scrubs" was up 11 percent in 18-49 and 9 percent in total viewers versus the prior Thursday's season-premiere telecast. "Scrubs" ranked #7 among all programs this week in the valuable demo of adults 18-34.
"ER" won its Thursday hour in adults 18-49, 18-34, 25-54 and other key demographics against rivals that benefited from sizable lead-in advantages. "ER" ranked #4 among all programs this week in adults 18-49.
On Friday, "Law & Order" won its time period by virtually all key measures, including adults 18-49 and total viewers. "Law & Order" locked up its highest 18-49 rating since its season premiere on September 22.
Paced by "NBC Sunday Night Football," NBC won Sunday night in 18-49, total viewers and other key measures. The Saints-Cowboys telecast scored NBC's highest "Sunday Night Football" results in five weeks.
Ratings reflect "live plus same day" data unless otherwise noted. Season-to-date figures are averages of "live plus seven day" data except for the two most recent weeks, which are "live plus same day."

On Monday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. ET, "Deal or No Deal" (5.1 rating, 14 share in adults 18-49, 17.4 million viewers overall) dominated its time period with a 70 percent margin of victory in 18-49 (5.1 vs. 3.0 for ABC's second-place "Wife Swap"). In overall total viewers, "Deal" won by more than 9.5 million viewers (17.4 million vs. 7.9 million for "Wife Swap"). "Deal" more than doubled NBC's 18-49 result on the same night last year (5.1 vs. 2.5). From its first half-hour to its second, "Deal" grew by 27 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 5.7/15 from a 4.5/12). "Deal" was the #1 show on television Monday night in total viewers.
Monday at 9 p.m. ET, "Heroes" (6.5/15 in 18-49, 14.9 million viewers overall) dominated its time period, winning in 18-49, total viewers and all other key ratings categories. The margin of victory in 18-49 was 71 percent (6.5 vs. a 3.8 for ABC's second-place "Supernanny"). "Heroes" was up by 63 percent in 18-49 versus NBC's non-sports average in this time period last season (6.5 vs. 4.0). It was network television's #1 show Monday night in adults 18-49.
At 10 p.m. ET, "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" (2.9/8 in 18-49, 7.3 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in its hour in adults 18-49, 18-34, 25-54 and total viewers.
NBC won Monday night in adults 18-49, marking the network's 10th Monday win in 12 weeks this season. NBC also won Monday night in total viewers for the fourth time this season. Versus the same night last year, NBC was up 48 percent in 18-49 (4.9 vs. 3.3) and by 34 percent or approximately 3.4 million viewers overall (13.3 million vs. 9.9 million).
On Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. ET, "Friday Night Lights" (2.4/7 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in the hour in adults 18-49 (tied) and #1 among men 18-34. At 9 p.m., an encore "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (2.4/6 in 18-49, 7.9 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in its time period in 18-49.
At 10 p.m. ET, an encore "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (3.1/9 in 18-49, 10.1 million viewers overall) ranked #1 in adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and key adult female demos versus original programming on ABC ("Boston Legal") and CBS ("Victoria's Secret Fashion Show").
On Wednesday, Dec. 6 from 8-9 p.m. ET, a special episode of "The Biggest Loser" averaged a 2.6/7 in 18-49 and 6.8 million viewers overall.
Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, the regular edition of "The Biggest Loser' (4.0/11 in 18-49, 9.4 million viewers overall) hit season-high numbers, delivering the show's highest 18-49 and total viewer results since November 29, 2005. "The Biggest Loser" ranked #1 from 9-10 p.m. ET in adults 18-49 and adults 18-34. In adults 18-49, "Loser" was up 60 percent versus NBC's results in the time period on the same night last year (4.0/11 vs. 2.5/6).
Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET, "Medium" (3.1/9 in 18-49, 8.6 million overall) summoned up its highest 18-49 and total viewer tallies in three weeks. "Medium" ranked #2 in the hour in 18-49, total viewers and other key measures.
On Thursday, Dec. 7 from 8-9 p.m. ET, a special one-hour "My Name is Earl" (4.3/12 in 18-49, 10.0 million viewers overall) scored season-high results, delivering its biggest 18-49 rating and largest overall viewership since April 6 (live plus same day). "Earl" ranked #2 in adults 18-49 and #1 in adults 18-34 in this tough time period, and was up 34 percent in 18-49 versus NBC's non-sports average in this slot last season (4.3 vs. 3.2).
From 9-9:31 p.m. ET, "Scrubs" (4.0/10 in 18-49, 8.4 million viewers overall) hit a season-high 18-49 rating. "Scrubs" was up 11 percent versus the previous week's season premiere in 18-49 and up 18 percent versus NBC's pre-"Scrubs" average this season in the time period. "Scrubs" ranked #2 for the time period in adults 18-49 (tie) and adults 18-34 and #1 among men 18-34. In total viewers, this was the most-watched telecast of "Scrubs" since Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004. In 18-49, "Scrubs" matched its highest rating since Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004.
From 9:31-10:01 p.m. ET, "30 Rock" (3.2/8 in 18-49, 6.8 million viewers overall) delivered a series-high 18-49 rating, up 19 percent versus the prior Thursday's telecast. In total viewers, "30 Rock" was up 15 percent versus the prior week, delivering its highest total viewer result since its series premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
From 10:01-11 p.m. ET, "ER" (5.5/14 in 18-49, 12.0 million viewers overall) won its time period in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and other key demographic measures against rival programming that benefited from sizable lead-in advantages. "ER" built on NBC's 18-49 rating in the previous half-hour by 72 percent, while the competing programs in the hour both declined substantially � ABC's "Men in Trees" fell 33 percent in 18-49 versus its lead-in from a "Grey's Anatomy" encore and "Shark" sank 46 percent in 18-49 versus its "CSI" lead-in.
On Friday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. ET, "1 vs 100" (2.5/8 in 18-49, 8.8 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in the hour behind only CBS' "Rudolph" holiday special in nearly all key measures, including 18-49 and total viewers. "1 vs 100" was up 32 percent in 18-49 versus NBC's result in this time period on the same night last year (2.5 vs. 1.9). From its first half-hour to its second, "1 vs 100" increased in 18-49 rating by 38 percent (to a 2.9/9 from a 2.1/7) and its overall viewership by 1.6 million persons.
At 9 p.m. ET, "Las Vegas" (2.8/8 in 18-49, 9.8 million viewers overall) ranked #2 by most key measures to CBS' "Frosty" holiday specials. "Las Vegas" was up 56 percent in 18-49 versus NBC's results in this time period on the same night last year (2.8 vs. 1.8).
At 10 p.m., "Law & Order" (3.2/10 in 18-49, 10.2 million viewers overall) was #1 in virtually all key measures including adults 18-49 and total viewers, hitting its highest 18-49 rating since its season premiere on Sept. 22.
On Saturday, Dec. 9 from 8-9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Heroes" averaged a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 2.5 million viewers overall, and at 9 p.m., a second rebroadcast of "Heroes" averaged a 1.0/3 in 18-49 and 3.2 million viewers overall. From its first hour to its second, "Heroes" grew by 40 percent in 18-49 rating. At 10 p.m., an encore "Law & Order" (1.6/5 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall) built on NBC's lead-in from the previous hour by 60 percent in 18-49.
On Sunday, Dec. 10, the "NBC Sunday Night Football" telecast of the New Orleans Saints versus the Dallas Cowboys averaged an 8.0/19 in adults 18-49, 19.9 million viewers overall and a 12.8/20 household rating and share from 8:21-11:31 p.m. ET to rank #1 for the week in adults 18-49. These are the highest "Sunday Night Football" results since the Indianapolis-New England telecast of November 5.

Saints-Cowboys football is up 176 percent versus the 2.9/6 NBC averaged from 8:30-11 p.m. on the same night last year. Versus the comparable night on NBC in 2005, NBC's Sunday primetime this week was up 192 percent in 18-49 (7.0/17 vs. 2.4/6) and up 85 percent in total viewers (17.4 million vs. 9.4 million).
Through week 14 of the NFL season, "NBC SNF" is averaging 17.5 million viewers, 5 percent higher than ABC's "Monday Night Football" through week 14 in 2005 (16.7 million viewers.
Also on Sunday, "Football Night in America 2" from 7:30-7:57 p.m. ET averaged a 2.6/7 in 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall and a 4.5/8 in households. "Football Night in America 3" from 7:57-8:12 p.m. delivered a 4.0/11 in 18-49, 10.3 million viewers overall and a 6.7/11 in households. From 8:12-8:21 p.m., "NBC Sunday Night Football Pre Kickoff" averaged a 5.1/12 in 18-49, 12.8 million viewers overall and an 8.1/13 in households. Note: "Football Night in America" from 7-7:30 p.m. ET was sustaining programming and does not figure in the nightly or weekly primetime averages.
