Syndies 'Hollywood Squares,' 'Pyramid' Get the Boot
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- Two more syndicated series were added to the 2003-04 season casualty list this week as stations that carry Sony Pictures Television's "Pyramid" and King World Productions' "Hollywood Squares" were informed both series will not return next season.

The duo join "The John Walsh Show," "Crossing Over With John Edward" and "The Wayne Brady Show," all of whom were canceled in recent weeks. It's not clear when exactly production will halt on new episodes of either series.

The news is particularly surprising for "Pyramid" which was up 6% in year-to-year comparisons for the first week of January (1.9 household rating). Coincidentally, NBC announced earlier this week "Pyramid" would be featured on the February 5 episode of "Friends" in which Matt LeBlanc's character appears as a contestant on the show. Nevertheless it's widely believed the sophomore series is being shuffled away for newer offerings as Sony will be pitching "Life & Style" and "Pat Croce: Moving In" this weekend at the 41st annual NATPE convention.

On the flip side the news wasn't much of a surprise for "Squares," which has been languishing since the exit of executive producer Whoopi Goldberg after its fourth season.
