SUNDAY MARATHON OUTPERFORMS CABLE COMPETITION AGAINST SUPERBOWL
NEW YORK -- February 8, 2005 -- Television's favorite detective, "Monk," did an end run past all other cable competitors Sunday when the multi-award-winning series scored a victory for USA Network with its 6-11 p.m. back-to-back marathon programming opposite the NFL Superbowl. USA ranked no. 1 in prime on Sunday night among P25-54 (938,000) with the 10 p.m. telecast of "Monk" grabbing 1,177,000 P25-54 viewers making the show the top-ranked cable program in prime.
The Sunday night programming coup was the capper to a powerhouse week for "Monk" which not only saw the series' Friday night original episode emerge as the no. 1 cable show for the week in P25-54 but also saw title star Tony Shalhoub take home his second consecutive Screen Actors Guild Award Saturday night for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series.
USA currently ranks first in all of basic cable for the first quarter of this year to date in prime in P18-49 (1.1, tied with TNT).
