NBC ADDS INTERACTIVITY TO THE 63rd ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS TELECAST MONDAY, JANUARY 16
Viewers To Give Live Feedback at NBC.com During Year's First Major Award Show
BURBANK - January 13, 2006 - Film and television fans will be able to make their opinions known and test their trivia skills during this year's telecast of the 63rd Annual Golden Globe Awards Monday, January 16 (8-11 p.m. ET) on NBC. For the first time in its 12-year run on the network, the show will feature an engaging online interactive television (ITV) experience on NBC.com, which can also be accessed at http://www.NBC.com/The_Golden_Globes/.
Created with the help of GoldPocket Interactive, a TANDBERG Television company (Oslo: TAT), this unique interactive experience will allow viewers to test their knowledge of film and television and cast their votes in a variety of film and television trivia polls.
During the show, viewers will be able to answer film and television trivia questions and can earn points for each correct answer. One lucky user will be chosen at random to win $5,000 just for playing along. Viewers will also be able to compare their own responses to the rest of the audience. The interactive experience will heighten the suspense before each winner is revealed while providing viewers an immediate connection to both the prestigious awards ceremony and -- through live poll results -- each other. Throughout the live event viewers will also be quizzed on film and television and red carpet trivia related to the program.
"Giving viewers a more robust, interactive digital experience is one of our top priorities at NBC Universal," said Jeff Gaspin, President, NBC Universal Cable Entertainment, Digital Content and Cross-Network Strategy. "The Golden Globes provides an excellent opportunity for such a component. You will regularly see more interactive features accompanying our programming as we move forward."
"Our work on NBC's telecast of the 63rd annual Golden Globe Awards is an excellent example of how interactive technologies can empower a network to deliver a more dynamic experience to viewers across multiple touch points," said Joe Franzetta, Executive Vice President of Corporate Development for GoldPocket Interactive. "As broadband penetration continues to grow, viewers are increasingly seeking out innovative, cross-platform programming formats that enable them to interact with programming and customize their viewing experience."
NBC's annual telecast of The Golden Globe Awards, regarded as "The Hollywood Party of the Year," is seen in more than 150 countries worldwide and is one of the few awards ceremonies that span both television and motion picture achievements. Legendary actor Anthony Hopkins will receive this year's Cecil B. DeMille Award for his "outstanding contribution to the entertainment field." The 63rd Annual Golden Globe Awards will be produced by dick clark productions in association with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
