Cbs, the CW Begin Staffing Dramas

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- CBS and The CW are on track to order at least five new dramas.
The corporate siblings are notoriously tight lipped about their new season plans however the pair gave the quintet - "Three Rivers," "The Good Wife" and the "NCIS" spin-off at CBS and "Melrose Place" and "Vampire Diaries" at The CW - the approval to begin making offers to writers.
Traditionally most pilots begin interviewing staff members in the weeks leading up to the upfronts and then pull the trigger once they receive the green light to series. While neither the Eye nor the netlet have issued the all-important green light, these behind-the-scenes mechanics are widely seen as precursors to said event.
Both networks are the last to announce their 2009-10 plans: CBS on Wednesday and The CW on Thursday.
