By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (ABC) - Entertainment Weekly reports Andrea Bowen is set to rejoin the series as a regular this season. She'll pop back up as Julie, Susan's daughter who was last seen dating her 40-year-old professor Lloyd (Steven Weber), in the season opener.

MIDDLESEX (HBO, New!) - Broadcasting & Cable reports Jeffrey Eugenides's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel is being developed as a drama series at the pay channel. Donald Margulies has been tapped to adapt the Detroit-set project, which "follows the life of Calliope Stephanides and the epic family history that may hold the answer to her complicated sexual identity." He'll also executive produce alongside Rita Wilson.

PARTY DOWN (Starz) - "Party Down" co-star Jane Lynch won't be back for the show's second season due to her commitment to FOX's "Glee." "It looks like I can't do the second season," Lynch told Daily Variety. "So I'm not happy about that all... but I'm in 'Glee,' so I'm thrilled about that." Jennifer Coolidge guest starred in the season's final two episodes as a temporary replacement for Lynch's character. It's not clear if she'll continue to fill said void.

SCRUBS (ABC) - Josh Bycel ("Psych") has been tapped as co-showrunner for its upcoming ninth season. He'll take over for Garrett Donovan and Neil Goldman, who've since moved onto NBC's new comedy "Community." On "Scrubs" he'll serve as an executive producer alongside creator Bill Lawrence, who's also launching newcomer "Cougar Town" this fall. The addition comes as "Scrubs" undergoes a massive makeover as a result of Zach Braff's departure as a series regular. As previously reported, it's understood the series will relocate to a medical school where Donald Faison's Turk and John C. McGinley's Dr. Cox will be teaching with the other original cast members serving as periodic guest stars.
