LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- Spike TV will tackle the dramatic increase in piracy off the coast of Africa in a one-hour special airing next month.

"U.S. Navy: Pirate Hunters," from 44 Blue Productions, is described as "an up-close and behind-the-scenes look at the US Navy operation to end this deadly threat of piracy in the Gulf of Aden."

The backdoor pilot will premiere Tuesday, June 8 at 11:00/10:00c following a special "Somali Pirate vs. Medellin Cartel" episode of "Deadliest Warrior" at 10:00/9:00c.

Adam Friedman and Rasha Drachkovitch are the executive producers of "Pirate Hunters" with Sharon Levy and Tim Duffy overseeing the project for Spike TV.
