"Jimmy Kimmel Live" Declares National UnFriend Day on Wednesday, November 17, 2010
"NUD" urges all Facebook users to "unfriend" all those who aren't truly friends.

"JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE" DECLARES NATIONAL UNFRIEND DAY ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2010

Last night on his show, Jimmy Kimmel called for a day of action, declaring November 17 National UnFriend Day (NUD). On November 17, Kimmel urges all Facebook users to "unfriend" all those who aren't truly friends.

"Friendship is a sacred thing, and I believe Facebook is cheapening it," Kimmel said in his announcement. "I go on this Facebook, I see people with thousands of what they call 'friends'---which is impossible. You can't have a thousand friends. A friend is someone you have a special relationship with, not someone who asks 'which Harry Potter character are you?' Remember five years ago when nobody was on Facebook and you didn't know what the guy you took high school biology with was having for lunch? Remember how that was totally fine? Let's go back to that."

In the weeks leading to National UnFriend Day, "Jimmy Kimmel Live" asks those who use Facebook to evaluate their so-called "friends." On November 17, those whose status updates are deemed unworthy will be eliminated en masse.
