New York, NY (March 23, 2011) - MTV announced today that it has picked up seasons 27 and 28 of the hit reality series, "The Real World." Currently airing its 25th season, and in casting for its 26th season, "The Real World" is widely credited for launching the modern reality television genre and is to date the longest-running reality series in history. Each season, the show brings young adults together to live in a new city while cameras document their every move 24-7. Debuting in 1992 in New York City the show has since taken its cameras to some of the hottest cities around the world, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Miami, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Paris, Sydney, and Cancun.
The current season of "The Real World" is set in Las Vegas and has ranked #1 with P12-34 in its time period across all of television since returning on March 9. Last week's episode averaged a 2.3 rating (P12-34) and 2.2 million total viewers, growing +28% from the prior week's season premiere.
"For the past 25 seasons, 'The Real World' has connected with our audience and continues to provoke discussion about issues that matter to our viewers," said Chris Linn, EVP of Programming, MTV Series. "We are excited to continue our relationship with Bunim/Murray Productions and look forward to more dynamic programming and continued success."
"The Real World has remained relevant for 25 seasons because it continues to capture the lives of young adults, hold a mirror to the challenges they face, and truly reflect the current generation. We thank MTV for their ongoing commitment to this show, and we're excited to see where the two additional seasons take us," said Jonathan Murray, Executive Producer of "The Real World" and Chairman of Bunim/Murray Productions.
"The Real World: Las Vegas" goes inside the lives of Adam, Dustin, Heather, Leroy, Michael, Naomi, and Nany. As the season progresses, the roommates get to know each other and experience the ups and downs of life while living at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Everything in Vegas this time around is on a grander scale, and that will come across loud and clear this season. Romance amongst the cast members is at an all time high, as secrets revealed and relationships are challenged. While some relationships will fail, others will emerge stronger and deeper.
"The Real World" was created for MTV by Jonathan Murray and Mary-Ellis Bunim of Bunim-Murray Productions. Jonathan Murray and Jim Johnston serve as Executive Producers of "The Real World: Las Vegas." Jacquelyn French is the MTV executive overseeing the project.
