LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- USA has passed on a second outing of its Sigourney Weaver-led drama "Political Animals."
"We are proud of Political Animals, our miniseries that attracted critical acclaim and impacted the cultural conversation this summer," the network said in a statement to TVLine.com. "It was a pleasure to work with Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark and a powerful cast led by Sigourney Weaver. We look forward to collaborating again with these immensely talented creatives."
Said development marks the third cancellation by the network in as many days: "Common Law" got the hook on Wednesday, followed by "Fairly Legal" yesterday.
"Political Animals" was the least-watched of USA's scripted originals among adults 18-49 and fared only slightly better than "Law" in total viewers. Here's a breakdown of said averages in 2012, ranked by total viewers (Live+SD, 1/1/12-10/28/12):
4.401 million - Burn Notice (1.2 adults 18-49 rating)
3.780 million - Suits (1.2)
3.744 million - Royal Pains (1.0)
3.304 million - In Plain Sight (0.7)
3.283 million - Covert Affairs (0.9)
3.116 million - White Collar (1.0)
2.741 million - Fairly Legal (0.6)
2.713 million - Necessary Roughness (0.7)
2.618 million - Psych (0.9)
2.126 million - Political Animals (0.5)
2.118 million - Common Law (0.6)
