THE LEFTOVERS (HBO/Warner Bros.; W: Damon Lindelof & Tom Perrotta; D: Peter Berg) - Carrie Coon, Ann Dowd, Christopher Eccleston and Amanda Warren are the latest to board the drama pilot, which asks what would happen if The Rapture actually took place and millions of people just disappeared from the Earth. Coon will play Nora Durst, "a wife and mother who is suddenly neither"; with Dowd as Patti Levin, "leader of the local chapter of the Guilty Remnant, an organization that is somewhere between a cult and a movement"; Eccleston as Matt Jamison, "former Reverend and current editor of his self-published tabloid"; and Warren as Lucy Warburton, "Mapleton's take-no-prisoners mayor." MURDER IN THE FIRST (TNT; W: Eric Lodal & Steven Bochco; D: TBA) - Tom Felton (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) is the latest addition to the pilot, a crime drama that will intimately dissect a single murder case over an entire season, from the commitment of the crime through the investigation, arrest and trial. He'll play Erich Blunt, "the cocky, spectacularly wealthy CEO of Applicon, a tech genius." Bess Rous, Ian Anthony Dale, Kathleen Robertson, Mimi Kirkland, Raphael Sbarge, Steven Weber and Taye Diggs also star in the hour. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED DIALLO RIDDLE/BASHIR SALAHUDDIN PROJECT (HBO, New!) - Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin ("Late Night With Jimmy Fallon") are set to star in a new comedy pilot at the pay channel about "two 30-year old-reporters, as they try to make it big in the burgeoning black mecca of contemporary Atlanta, aka the New South." Said duo also penned the half-hour with Lorne Michaels and Dave Flebotte also serving as executive producers - the latter of which will serve as showrunner - and Broadway Video Television's Andrew Singer as a co-executive producer. AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Bridget Carpenter has been tapped as the showrunner of Sundance Channel's recently greenlighted drama "The Descendants" (Deadline.com); Sam Catlin has inked a new two-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television, where he'll join the studio's "Rake" as a co-executive producer (Deadline.com); Jeremy Luke has been cast as gangster Mickey Cohen in TNT's upcoming 1940s drama "Lost Angels" (Deadline.com); NBC has reportedly commissioned a rewrite of its drama pilot "I Am Victor" for a potential reshoot at the beginning of September (Deadline.com); co-executive producers Kathy Samuels and Ethan Nelson as well as director Joseph Terry departing are the latest to exit the second season of "Katie" (Deadline.com); Natalie Zea will recur on CBS's summer drama "Under the Dome" as a troublemaker with connections to a number of characters (TVGuide.com); and Canada's Whizbang Films and Take 5 Productions have come on board as co-producers of The CW's newcomer "Reign" and returning drama "Beauty and the Beast" (THR.com).
