LEGENDARY DAYTIME TALK SHOW HOST OPRAH WINFREY TO VISIT CBS's "LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN," THURSDAY, AUGUST 1

Marks Her Second Visit to the "Late Show" and Her First Since Dec. 1, 2005

Renowned talk show host, producer, publisher and actress Oprah Winfrey will visit the LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN, Thursday, Aug. 1 (11:35 PM-12:37 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. This will mark her second-ever visit to the LATE SHOW, and her first since her much-talked-about appearance on Dec. 1, 2005.

Ms. Winfrey gained international recognition as the host of the multi-award-winning syndicated talk show, "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which ended its run in 2011. The chairwoman and CEO of Harpo Productions, her film and television production company, she is a noted philanthropist, the publisher of the lifestyle magazine, O: The Oprah Magazine, and the chairwoman, CEO and CCO of the cable television network, OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, which launched Jan. 1, 2011. Winfrey is also an acclaimed actress, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in the film "The Color Purple."

Ms. Winfrey stars in the upcoming film "Lee Daniels' The Butler" as Gloria Gaines, wife of Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker), who, as a White House butler, eyewitnesses notable events of the 20th century during his tenure. The film is based on the real-life account of Eugene Allen, who served as a White House butler during eight U.S. presidencies, from 1952 to 1986. The film is set for release in theaters August 16.

Ms. Winfrey's LATE SHOW appearance comes nearly eight years after her first visit to the CBS broadcast. Prior to her 2005 appearance, Letterman had expressed his long-standing desire to have Ms. Winfrey as a guest on the show. Her LATE SHOW visit on Dec. 1, 2005 coincided with the red carpet premiere for the Broadway musical "The Color Purple," which she produced. With fans and media cheering on, Letterman famously escorted Ms. Winfrey after the interview taping down Broadway to The Broadway Theatre, directly across the street from the Ed Sullivan Theater, to the musical's premiere.

Also visiting the LATE SHOW Thursday, Aug. 1 is actor Paul Rudd, who stars in the new film "Prince Avalanche."

The LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN is a production of Worldwide Pants Incorporated. Barbara Gaines, Matt Roberts, Jude Brennan, Maria Pope, Eric Stangel, Justin Stangel and Rob Burnett are the executive producers.

RATING: TV-PG (Rating may change on day of broadcast due to specific subject matter.)
