E! TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY: CEELO GREEN

"Why do I feel so different from people or why are people making me feel so different from them?" - CeeLo Green

Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Nicole Scherzinger and Carson Daly, Along With Family and Childhood Friends Share Insights Into on the Music Mogul for All New "THS: CeeLo Green" Premiering September 16 at 10:00 PM ET/PT Only on E!

Los Angeles, September 11, 2013 - E! was granted exclusive access into the life of CeeLo Green as the charismatic singer/songwriter/producer opens up in this all-new one-hour "True Hollywood Story. " From the tumultuous and fascinating journey that has led him from the tough Atlanta suburbs all the way to superstardom, one thing is for sure, CeeLo Green has earned his megastar status. Joined by family members, his ex-wife and famous friends like Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Nicole Scherzinger and Carson Daly, Green reflects on his humble beginnings and troubled youth in Atlanta, the major moments that changed his life, his lengthy struggle to make it big in the music business and, ultimately, his meteoric rise to superstardom. "THS: CeeLo Green" premieres September 16 at 10:00 PM ET/PT only on E!

Getting the story straight from Green and those who know him best, this one-hour special reveals new insight into this artist's long journey and becomes a visual to complement his new memoir "Everybody's Brother", which was released Sept. 10, 2013. And though he is an international star, what people don't know about Green will surprise viewers. Born Thomas DeCarlo Burton, Green grew up in a rough part of Atlanta. A self-proclaimed kleptomaniac who spent much of his youth getting in trouble, Green reveals the lengths his mom went to in order to set him straight (would you believe military school?), and how her death inspired him to focus on music. Find out the important role religion played in his life, how he earned the name "Chicken Head," how a chance meeting at "Saturday Night Live" changed his career trajectory, and why ignoring the advice of his friends, family and even his record label was the best decision CeeLo Green ever made.

Don't miss an intimate look at this charismatic and eccentric artist when the "E! True Hollywood Story: CeeLo Green" premieres September 16 at 10:00 PM ET/PT only on E!

Quotes from the special:

"I often say that music saved him. Once he discovered music, that actually saved his life and put him on the right path." - Shedonna Alexander (sister)

"That was a very trying time. Probably the most helpless I've ever felt, you know." - Green about his mother's accident

"In the aftermath of Goodie Mob sort of falling apart [Ceelo] signed a solo deal. But what he did was he revealed something about his musicality. He made a record that showed how much he could do, and that probably was the worst thing he could've done because Ceelo didn't fit any niche. He did everything. You know, he was singing soul, there was gospel, there was stuff that sounded like Prince, there was stuff that sounded hardcore. And he has the talent to back that up, but it didn't really hit any one market." - David Wild (Co-Author "Everybody's Brother")

"We were still in love with each other when I filed (for divorce). It's very hard when you love someone like, with every... core of your being, like and it doesn't work out. You know, um...Whooh. This is rough." - Christina Johnson (ex-wife)

"I'm gonna be on his arm, I don't know, like maybe feeding him grapes and fanning him for another song maybe. Um, but he's just unstoppable. He's undeniable. He's so special. He's so outrageous. I'm inspired by him so much because he doesn't listen to anyone else. He doesn't care what anybody else thinks, he just does what he knows best." - Nicole Scherzinger

"CeeLo is one that is truly driven by passion and inspiration." - Christina Aguilera

"CeeLo is driven by an urge to be different. And to express himself not only with his music, but with his appearance and it's exciting to him and it's exciting to us. It's exciting to me. I mean there's times where here at 'The Voice,' where I'll get ready and we're waiting to go to the set and do a live show and I'll stand outside of his trailer dying to see what the man's going to come out dressed like this time." - Blake Shelton

"He's our statue of liberty. Bring us your huddled masses yearning to breathe free; we have a place for you, you know? CeeLo represents that on 'The Voice' you know. That everybody is welcome." - Carson Daly

"My aspiration is and the possibilities are just, you know, boundless. I want to encourage other people, you know, not to be like me, but to be themselves, better versions of themselves. Like, I'm still a work in progress, you know?" - Green
