RETURNED, THE (A&E; W: Carlton Cuse & Raelle Tucker; D: Keith Gordon) - Kevin Alejandro, Sophie Lowe and Mat Vairo are the latest additions to the drama series, which focuses on a small town that is turned upside down when several local people, who have been long presumed dead suddenly reappear, bringing with them both positive and detrimental consequences. In addition, Keith Gordon has been tapped to direct the premiere episode. Alejandro will play "the town's authoritative but accessible Sheriff Tommy Moran"; with Lowe as Lena, "one of Jack's (Mark Pellegrino) two daughters (the other played by India Ennenga)"; and Vairo as Simon, "a musician who comes back 10 years after his death." (Deadline.com)
THINGS YOU SHOULDN'T SAY PAST MIDNIGHT (DirecTV; W: Peter Ackerman; D: TBA) - Peter Ackerman's play-turned-TV series, which examines a variety of modern-day relationships through the conceit that nothing good happens after midnight, has locked in its principal cast. "The series starts with Ben (Stephen Schneider), a sweet, young Jewish professor of English at a university who is stunned when his girlfriend, Nancy (Collette Wolfe), makes an anti-Semitic remark during an intimate encounter in his office. Leo (Parker Young) and Phil (Jimmy Ouyang) play two 19-year-old sophomores who come up with a scheme to prank the university's dean (Keith David), only to have their plan foiled by security guard Dawn (Kerri Kenney). Grace (Alanna Ubach) is in the middle of a late-night session with her therapist Mark (Eddie Kaye Thomas), who has offered to set her up on a blind date with his brother, a man who is radically different than her past suitors. Donald Abramson (Kurt Fuller) has been unhappily married for 40 years to the jealous and perennially suspicious Estelle (Lin Shaye), who has driven him to therapy to work on their relationship. Pedro 1 (Jorge-Luis Pallo) and Pedro 2 (Ivo Nandi) are brothers from a large family hired by Donald to count, stack and label rolls of carpeting. What seems like a night of simple menial labor ends with the brothers being targeted by a hit man, Clean Gene (Hugh Dillon)." (THR.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Constance Zimmer has joined the cast of Lifetime's upcoming drama "Un-Real" as Julia, succeeding Megyn Price from the original pilot (Deadline.com); Warner Horizon Television is currently shopping "I Slept with a Celebrity," a new unscripted series from "Watch What Happens Live" host Andy Cohen (Deadline.com); FOX has locked on Monday, September 22 at 9:00/8:00c as the return date for "Sleepy Hollow" (TVLine.com); and Jason Ritter will guest on "Girls" as a character named Scott (TVLine.com).
