"Extant," CBS' Highly Anticipated Summer Blockbuster, Arrives this Weekend on Prime Instant Video for Exclusive Premium Subscription Streaming

Licensing deal gives Prime members exclusive access to Extant episodes just four days after their initial broadcast at no extra charge to their Prime membership

Extant also premieres in the U.K. exclusively on Prime Instant Video

SEATTLE -- Jul. 11, 2014 -- (NASDAQ:AMZN) - Amazon.com, Inc. today announced that sci-fi thriller Extant will debut this weekend on Prime Instant Video in the U.S., just four days after the series premiere on CBS. Under the terms of Amazon's content licensing agreement with CBS, Prime Instant Video will be the exclusive premium subscription streaming home for the summer blockbuster, with each episode available to Prime members just four days after it airs on CBS. New fans can access Extant on hundreds of connected devices using their Prime membership beginning July 13. Those who are not already members of Amazon Prime can sign up at www.amazon.com/primeinstantvideo.

From Amblin Television, Extant is a thrilling sci-fi drama starring Oscar-winner Halle Berry as an astronaut, Molly Woods, who returns home from a year in space and tries to reconnect with her husband and son. The events following Woods' return home will ultimately change the course of human history with dramatic consequences for the entire planet.

Amazon entered a similar agreement with CBS last year for Under the Dome, which became Prime Instant Video's most-watched series of the summer and was television's number one summer series in viewers, averaging nearly 14 million viewers per week. Season two of Under the Dome follows the same model, with episodes available on Prime Instant Video just four days after they air on CBS.

"Judging from the customer response we got to Under the Dome last summer, we know Prime members are going to enjoy having access to Extant just four days after it airs on CBS," said Brad Beale, Director of Digital Video Content Acquisition for Amazon. "We love innovating on behalf of our customers and are fortunate to be able to collaborate with CBS to offer this unique model to Prime members."

"Last summer with Under the Dome, CBS and Amazon demonstrated how a broadcast network and premium streaming service can maximize the viewer experience while building a hit television show," said Scott Koondel, Chief Corporate Licensing Officer, CBS Corporation. "Using this proven model again for Extant, we're excited to offer TV viewers and Prime members another big event, summer series."

Extant also premiered in the U.K. exclusively on Prime Instant Video on July 10, the day after the U.S. premiere on CBS. New episodes will be available to stream each week, one day after their U.S. broadcast on CBS, in the U.K. exclusively on Prime Instant Video in high definition and on over 400 devices.
