EMMA CAVENDISH (ABC, New!) - Christopher Silber ("NCIS") has sold a new drama to the Alphabet about "a young attorney who discovers a long-buried secret about her family. The revelation upends her career and personal life, making her question everything she believed about herself." ABC Studios is behind the hour with Emile Gladstone Productions' Emile Gladstone executive producing alongside Silber. (Deadline.com)

FREQUENCY (NBC, New!) - Jeremy Carver ("Supernatural") is spearheading a small screen take on the Jim Caviezel/Dennis Quaid-led 2000 feature, in which "an NYPD detective connects with his son, 30 years in the future. The two must work together to change the history of tragic events to come while also getting the chance to heal their complicated relationship." Warner Bros. Television is behind the project, which has a penalty attached. Screenwriter Toby Emmerich is on board to executive produce the hour alongside John Rickard and Lin Pictures' Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz. (THR.com)

SHANNARA (MTV; W: Al Gough & Miles Millar; D: Jonathan Liebesman) - Poppy Drayton ("When Calls the Heart") is the first to be cast in the upcoming drama, based on Terry Brooks's best-selling fantasy novels about the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world. She's set as Elven Princess Amberle, who's "the first female to be accepted as one of the Chosen, the special group of Elves responsible for the protection and care of the ancient Ellcrys tree. But unlike the rest of the Chosen, Amberle's dangerous and heroic journey is just beginning." (Deadline.com)

AND IN OTHER NEWS... - CBS has commissioned two additional scripts of its freshman comedy "The McCarthys" (Deadline.com); Netflix reportedly is "deep in negotiations" with Warner Horizon Television for a fourth season of "Longmire" (Deadline.com); BBC Two has ordered a third season of "Peaky Blinders" with Netflix on board to distribute in the U.S. (Deadline.com); Greer Grammer will recur on "Melissa & Joey" as "a wannabe actress coached by Mel's niece Lennox" (Deadline.com); Lizzie Brochere has boarded the new season of "The Strain" as Coco, "Palmers' (Jonathan Hyde) personal assistant" (Deadline.com);

VH1 is in talks to revive sister channel MTV's "The Osbournes" (EW.com); DirecTV's Audience Network will broadcast "Black Mirror: White Christmas", featuring guest star Jon Hamm, as a 90-minute special on Christmas Day at 9:30/8:30c (EW.com); Nia Vardalos will visit "Marry Me" as "a former friend of the Kevins (Dan Bucatinsky and Tim Meadows) and Annie's (Casey Wilson) biological mom" (ETOnline.com); and Ron Perlman will guest on the post-Super Bowl installment of "The Blacklist" as "a meticulous thief who plans his international heists over the course of several months or years" (TVGuide.com).
