CORTES (HBO, New!) - Actor Benicio Del Toro (Traffic), writer Chris Gerolmo ("The Bridge") and director Martin Scorsese ("Boardwalk Empire") are developing a new period drama at the pay channel about "the sweeping story of Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés, who brought down the Aztec empire; Malinche, the Mayan girl who helped him do it; and Montezuma, the Aztec leader he befriended and finally put in chains." Del Toro is on track to play the title role with Laura Bickford, Rick Yorn and Sikelia Productions' Emma Tillinger Koskoff also among the executive producers. (Deadline.com)
LUTHER (FOX, New!) - Writer Neil Cross and actor Idris Elba are looking to bring their acclaimed British series - about John Luther (Elba), "a near-genius murder detective whose brilliant mind can't always save him from the dangerous violence of his passions" - to the States at FOX. Cross himself will pen the import, which has a put pilot commitment with a seven-figure penalty. Elba however will not star but executive produce alongside 20th Century Fox Television-based Chernin Entertainment's Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope and BBC Worldwide Productions' Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner. AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Netflix has scrapped plans to premiere the new stand-up comedy special "Bill Cosby 77" following the comedian's alleged rape allegations (Deadline.com); Riley Smith is on track to recur on "True Detective" as "a boyish Sheriff's deputy" (Deadline.com); John Hamburg's newly launched Particular Pictures has inked a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television (Deadline.com); Michael Ealy has joined the cast of "The Following" as "a brilliant, chameleon-like killer who will push Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) to the brink" (Deadline.com);
Stuart Townsend will recur on "Elementary" as Joan's new boss "when Watson embarks on a part-time gig as an investigator for a global insurance firm" (EW.com); Callie Thorne will guest on "NCIS: New Orleans" as "the daughter of a mob boss who started a nonprofit organization to give back to the community and try to rehabilitate her image" (EW.com); Yusuf Gatewood's Vincent is being upped to series regular on "The Originals" (EW.com); and Rob Riggle is bound for "Marry Me" as "Dennah's (Sarah Wright Olsen) newest beau, a hard-partying Chicago police officer" (TVGuide.com).

NBC Will Now Offer a Special Premiere of "The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins" on Sunday, Jan. 18 Immediately Following Coverage of the NFL Playoff Game
The series will return on Monday, February 23 at 8 p.m. with an encore of the pilot and a new episode immediately following at 8:30 p.m. in its timeslot premiere.
