PARTY, THE (ABC, New!) - "Gossip Girl" alums Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are set to re-team for a new project at the Alphabet billed as "a twisted family drama that follows a murder investigation told over the course of 24 hours. The case begins at a celebration that is interrupted when a body is found floating in the pool. Through flashbacks, the mystery paints every guest as a possible suspect." Their ABC Studios-based Fake Empire is behind the hour, which is based on a Brazilian format from Grupo Globo. The company's Lis Rowinski will co-executive produce. (Deadline.com)


SMOKE & MIRRORS (CBS, New!) - Writer Dave Kalstein and director Marc Webb have sold a new drama to the Eye about "a mysterious detective in the LAPD Robbery Homicide Division, a contemporary Houdini-like character who uses her knowledge of deception and misdirection to solve seemingly impossible crimes committed by criminal masterminds." CBS Television Studios is behind the hour with Bard Dorros, Michael Sugar and Alex Goldstone of Anonymous Content also executive producing and martial arts master Rafael Kayanan producing. UNTITLED BESS WOHL PROJECT (ABC, New!) - Actress/writer Bess Wohl has sold a new dramedy at the Alphabet which "focuses on a clique of young nannies, a trio of interconnected families and their various support staffs, all trying to help the kids grow up when they haven't quite grown up themselves." The project has been set up at ABC Studios-based Shondaland with Kerry Washington, Katie Lowes, Adam Shapiro, Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers also among the executive producers. (Deadline.com)


AND IN OTHER NEWS... - HBO has opted not to proceed with a second season of "The Brink" despite issuing a renewal back in July (Deadline.com); NBC has rolled back its commitment to its new comedy "Truth Be Told" from 13 to 10 episodes (Deadline.com); Yahoo! is "taking a pause on long-form scripted content" such as "Community," "Sin City Saints" and "Other Space" following a $42 million write-down by the company (Variety.com); Common has signed a two-year first-look deal with HBO (Deadline.com); Betty White will drop by NBC's upcoming comedy "Crowded" (@BettyMWhite); Glenn Keogh and Caroline Morahan have been cast as Merida's (Amy Manson) parents on "Once Upon a Time" (EW.com); and Jessica Camacho's Sophie Foster has been upped to series regular on "Sleepy Hollow" (THR.com).
