BUFFALO (FOX, New!) - Shawn Wines has sold a new comedy to the network which "revolves around dysfunctional members of a workspace collective, set in the emerging Rust Belt paradise of Buffalo, New York." 20th Century Fox Television-based Particular Pictures is behind the half-hour, which has a penalty attached, with John Hamburg and Jacob Robinson also serving as executive producers. DARKOVER (Amazon, New!) - Marion Zimmer Bradley's 25-book book series, "set on the exotic planet of Darkover," is being developed as a drama at the streaming service. Ilene Kahn Power and Elizabeth Stanley are executive producing the project for IM Global Television, which is currently searching for a writer. (Deadline.com)
DIPLOMATS, THE (FOX, New!) - Andrew Lenchewski ("Royal Pains") has sold a new drama to the network about "two female State Department agents who are assigned to work together on a major diplomatic crisis, but the fate of the world might rest on whether these women can get along with each other." Universal Television-based Will Packer Productions is behind the hour, which has a penalty attached. Lenchewski and Packer are the executive producers with Korin D. Huggins co-executive producing. FAIR & BALANCED (ABC, New!) - Hayden Schlossberg and Jon Hurwitz have set up a new single-camera comedy at the Alphabet and Lionsgate Television about "an aspiring NPR reporter who is swayed to work at a Fox News-type channel." Actor Kal Penn also serve as an executive producer on the project, which is loosely inspired by his real-life experiences in public service, as will Industry Entertainment's Dan Spilo with Hurwitz & Schlossberg Productions' Matt Lottman as a co-producer. FAMILY FOR SALE (FOX, New!) - Aaron Serna ("Cristela") has set up a new single-camera comedy at the network which "explores conscious uncoupling and marriage through the lens of the divorce of an affluent Hispanic family." The project is based on the Colombian series of the same name with Roselyn Sanchez, Eric Winter and Ian Gurvitz also on board as executive producers. (Deadline.com)
I'M DYING UP HERE (Showtime/Endemol; W: Dave Flebotte; D: Jonathan Levine) - Brianne Howey is the latest to be cast in the Jim Carrey-produced drama pilot, which centers on L.A.'s celebrated and infamous stand-up comedy scene of the 1970s. She'll play Kay, "a spunky and promiscuous waitress at Goldie's comedy club, the epicenter of L.A.'s stand-up scene." Melissa Leo, Ari Graynor, Sebastian Stan, Clark Duke, Andrew Santino, R.J. Cyler, Erik Griffin and Stephen Guarino also star. (Deadline.com)
SMOKE SEX MAGIC (NBC, New!) - Matthew Murphy has sold a new drama to the Peacock about "two sisters who inherit their mother's popular restaurant only to discover that the secret to their mother's cooking was black magic." Universal Television is behind the hour with Parkes + MacDonald's Owen Shiflett, Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald also executive producing. (Deadline.com)
TOKYO UNDERWORLD (Amazon, New!) - Robert Whiting's novel is being developed as a drama by the streaming service. David Scarpa is attached to pen the script and executive produce alongside Parkes + MacDonald's Owen Shiflett, Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. (Deadline.com)
TRUE LOVE (ABC, New!) - Writer Gemma Burgess and director Anne Fletcher are set to team for an anthology project "very loosely inspired by classic fairy tales and subverted with a provocative and authentic post-feminist twist that believes you can stand on your own and still want to be swept off your feet." ABC Studios is behind the hour, with Fabrik Entertainment's Kristen Campo, Henrik Bastian and Mikkel Bondesen executive producing alongside Fletcher and Burgess serving as a co-executive producer. WORK, THE (FOX, New!) - Scott O'Connor has booked a potential drama at the network "set in the world of professional wrestling." Parkes + MacDonald's Owen Shiflett, Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald will also executive produce for 20th Century Fox Television. (Deadline.com)
ZOOBIQUITY (FOX/20th; W: Sean Jablonski; D: TBA) - The network is taking another stab at bringing Barbara Natterson-Horowitz and Kathryn Bowers's book to the small screen. Sean Jablonski ("Satisfaction") will pen the project, succeeding Stephen Nathan and Jonathan Collier, which "pairs a physician and a vet in a fast-paced and emotional workplace where they have to work together to save human and animal lives." Collier, Nathan and Spencer Medof however will all remain as executive producers. (THR.com)
