Vice President Joe Biden to Present Craig Sager with the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at The 2016 ESPYS
ESPN today announced that Vice President Joe Biden will be on hand at The 2016 ESPYS to present the Jimmy V Perseverance Award to Craig Sager. Sager was given a life-changing diagnosis of leukemia in 2014 but TNT's hard-working veteran returned to the sidelines in 2015 and continues to publicly battle the disease while remaining committed to the work he loves.
The 2016 ESPYS Presented by Capital One will be hosted by John Cena and will feature some of the world's premier athletes and biggest stars. The 24th annual celebration of the best moments from the year in sports will be televised live from the Microsoft Theater on Wednesday, July 13, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
This year's scheduled presenters include (in alphabetical order): Chris Berman (ESPN Sportscaster), Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Skylar Diggins (Dallas Wings), Lisa Leslie (retired WNBA player), David Oyelowo (Queen of Katwe), Usher Raymond IV (Hands of Stone) Lindsey Vonn (American World Skier), Dwyane Wade (Chicago Bulls), and JJ Watt (Houston Texans), among others.
The ESPYS is back on ABC for the second year with a star-studded night celebrating major sports achievements, reliving unforgettable moments and saluting the leading performers and performances of the past year in sports. Top celebrities from sports and entertainment gather to recognize nominees and honor winners in categories such as "Best MLB Player," "Best Team," "Best Female Athlete," and "Best Upset," "Best Breakthrough Athlete" and more. The ESPYS showcase inspiring human stories through three pillar awards - the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, the Jimmy V Perseverance Award and the Pat Tillman Award for Service. The show supports ESPN's ongoing commitment to The V Foundation for Cancer Research, launched by ESPN with the late Jim Valvano in 1993.
