BEING MARY JANE (BET) - Gabrielle Union has reportedly filed a multi-million-dollar breach of contract lawsuit against the cable network over its decision to film two 10-episode seasons (the show's fourth and fifth) back-to-back rather than give a break in production as previously agreed. (Deadline.com)
BROOKLYN NINE-NINE (FOX) - Jimmy Smits has been cast as Amy's (Melissa Fumero) father in the show's Thanksgiving episode: "a no-nonsense retired cop who loves his daughter very much and whom Jake (Andy Samberg) will do anything to impress." (THR.com)
EMPIRE (FOX) - Veteran actor Frank Whaley has been tapped for an arc on the series as Edison Cruz, "a talented, brilliant, and relentless right-wing blogger who poses an unforeseen threat to Angelo's rising popularity in the NYC mayoral election with his vicious attacks and rhetoric." (Deadline.com)
NIGHTMARE TIME (TBS, New!) - The cable channel has ordered a pilot for a potential horror anthology from Aubrey Plaza, Darcy Fowler, Kieran Valla, and Seth Kirschner. Said effort is "set in Aubrey Plaza's Nightmare Clinic, where celebrity guests check in to overcome recurring nightmares." Plaza will also appear in the pilot as well as executive produce. Valla, Kirschner and Fowler serve as co-executive producers. (Deadline.com)
SOCIO (MTV, New!) - Bernie Su ("The Lizzie Bennet Diaries") is developing a new drama at the cable channel about Jordan, "a teen tech savant who teams with a morally questionable police detective to catch a serial killer. With every case, Jordan must confront the darkness inside her." Astronauts Wanted and Canvas Media Studios are behind the project, with the former's Judy McGrath presumably also serving as an executive producer. (THR.com)
STAR (FOX) - Darius McCrary ("Family Matters") is the latest to recur on the midseason drama as Otis Leecan, "a nasty piece of work who's obsessed with his foster daughter Simone (Brittany O'Grady). He will do everything in his power to drag her back from Atlanta after she runs away. He's clever, manipulative and dangerous. But he's met his match in Simone and her sister Star (Jude Demorest)." (Deadline.com)
UNREAL (Lifetime) - Stacy Rukeyser has been named the new showrunner of the series, which returns for its third season this summer. She'll succeed season two showrunner Carol Barbee. (Deadline.com)
