AMERICAN CRIME (ABC) - Kurt Krause has scored an arc on the show's third season. No details about his character were given. (Deadline.com)
BALLERS (HBO) - Serinda Swan has been tapped to recur on the new season as Chloe Day, "a smart, sexy, hotel management executive at the nicest resort hotel in Las Vegas." (Deadline.com)
CONTROVERSY (FOX) - Sheldon Turner's drama has received a pilot order from the network. Directors John Requa and Glenn Ficarra likewise executive produce the 20th Century Fox Television-based hour with Judy Smith, Vendetta Productions' Jennifer Klein and Zaftig Films' Charlie Gogolak. The logline is as follows: "The Junior Counsel of a prestigious Illinois university must deal with an out-of-control scandal when a young co-ed accuses several star football players of sexual assault. From the football coaches and boosters who wield outsize influence, to a university administration under siege, the series explores the type of high-profile controversy all-too familiar on today's college campuses, as well as the corrosive, dangerous nature of institutional power."
DYNASTY (The CW) - Nathalie Kelley ("The Vampire Diaries") is the first to be cast in the drama pilot, a reboot of the 1980s staple. She'll play Cristal, "a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASPy family and America's most powerful class." (Deadline.com)
EL JEFE (CBS, New!) - Paul Attanasio ("Bull") has landed a pilot order from the Eye for a new drama about "the multi-generational members of a Mexican-American family with deep roots in San Diego intertwine personally and professionally due to their powerful careers in law enforcement." Rodrigo Garcia is attached to direct and executive produce the CBS Television Studios-based hour alongside Leonard Goldberg and David Barrett. (Deadline.com)
HIGHER GROUND (A.K.A. UNTITLED JENNY LUMET PROJECT) (CBS) - Jenny Lumet's drama - about "an elite team of investigators for the Northeast Regional U.S. Hate Crimes Unit who solve a myriad of crimes against humanity as they confront their own biases" - has scored a pilot order from the Eye. Katie Couric, David Marshall Grant, Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin also serve as executive producers for the CBS Television Studios-based Secret Hideout and Katie Couric Media. (Deadline.com)
JANE THE VIRGIN (The CW) - Titular star Gina Rodriguez has signed a multi-year overall deal with CBS Television Studios where she'll develop new series projects via her I Can and I Will Productions banner. (Deadline.com)
LA --> VEGAS (FOX, New!) - Lon Zimmet has snagged a pilot order from the network for a new single-camera comedy. Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy will also executive produce for 20th Century Fox Television. The logline is given as: "An ensemble workplace comedy about a group of underdogs trying to find their place in the world, set on the Friday night flight from LAX to Vegas and the returning flight on Sunday, who all share the same goal: to come back a winner in the casino of life."
MICHAEL JACKSON: SEARCHING FOR NEVERLAND (Lifetime) - Sam Adegoke has been cast as Jackson bodyguard Javon Beard in the biopic, which begins production on Monday. (Deadline.com)
OUTLANDER (Starz) - Gary Young and Charlie Hiett have been cast as Mr. Willoughby, "a Chinese exile who becomes Jamie's companion in Edinburgh"; and Capt. Thomas Leonard, "who finds himself in charge of a British ship after illness ravages the vessel." (TVLine.com)
RESIDENT, THE (FOX, New!) - Amy Holden Jones has scored a pilot order from the network for a new medical drama. Jones co-wrote the hour alongside co-executive producers Hayley Schore and Roshan Sethi. 3 Arts Entertainment's Oly Obst and Fuqua Films' Antoine Fuqua will then executive produce alongside Jones for 20th Century Fox Television. The logline given is as follows: "An idealistic young doctor begins his first day under the supervision of a tough, brilliant senior resident who pulls the curtain back on all of the good and evil in modern day medicine. Lives may be saved or lost, but expectations will always be shattered."
TYPE A (FOX) - Writer Lesley Wake-Webster and director Jason Winer's single-camera comedy is heading to pilot at the network. 20th Century Fox Television-based Small Dog Picture Company is behind the half-hour, which is loosely based on the book "Assholes: A Theory" by Aaron James, who will be a consultant on the pilot. The project's logline is: "An office comedy about a group of consultants hand-picked to do the dirty work most professionals can't handle: layoffs, downsizing, generally delivering horrible news. To everyone else, they're the enemy - to each other, they're family."
UNREAL (Lifetime) - Chelsea Hobbs will recur on the upcoming season as Charlie, "a talented new camera assistant on Everlasting who's a breath of fresh air, still green and innocent enough to love her job." (Deadline.com)
