New York - September 27, 2017 - "City of Ghosts," the A&E IndieFilms/Amazon Studios acclaimed documentary feature from Academy Award(R)-nominated and Emmy Award(R)-winning director Matthew Heineman ("Cartel Land"), makes its television debut on A&E Network on Monday, October 2 at 10pm ET/PT.

A&E IndieFilms' "City of Ghosts" was produced by Our Time Projects in association with Jigsaw Productions.

"City of Ghosts" is the second collaboration between A&E and Heineman, who previously paired in 2015 for the acclaimed documentary feature, "Cartel Land," which won three Primetime Emmy Awards, including Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking.

Directed, produced, and filmed by Heineman, "City of Ghosts" follows the journey of Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently, a handful of anonymous activists who banded together after their homeland was taken over by ISIS in 2014. With astonishing, deeply personal access, this is the story of a brave group of citizen journalists as they face the realities of life undercover, on the run, and in exile, risking their lives to stand up against one of the greatest evils in the world today.

"City of Ghosts" premiered in January 2017 at the Sundance Film Festival and it was released theatrically on July 7 by Amazon Studios and IFC Films. Amazon Studios holds worldwide rights to the film which will premiere on Amazon Prime on October 13. "City of Ghosts" has already garnered several awards, including the Courage Under Fire Award from the International Documentary Association.

Heineman is one of the most talented documentary filmmakers working today. His documentary feature credits include "Cartel Land," which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and won three Primetime Emmy Awards. He also received the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary Award from the DGA, the Courage Under Fire Award from the IDA and the 2017 Documentary Award frm the prestigious George Polk Awards in Investigative Journalism. Heineman previously directed and produced the Emmy Award-nominated documentary "Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare." He is currently in pre-production on his first narrative feature, "A Private War," about legendary war reporter Marie Colvin.

Academy Award and Emmy Award-winner Alex Gibney is Executive Producer of the film. Molly Thompson, Robert Sharenow and Elaine Frontain Bryant are Executive Producers for A&E. Maiken Baird, David Fialkow, and Stacey Offman also serve as Executive Producers.
