ARE YOU SLEEPING (Apple, New!) - Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer is attached to star in a potential drama series billed as "a unique glimpse into America's obsession with true-crime podcasts and challenges its viewers to consider the consequences when the pursuit of justice is placed on a public stage." Nichelle Tramble Spellman is penning the project based on true-crime novel by Kathleen Barber. Tramble; Orit Entertainment's Spencer; Hello Sunshine's Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter; and Chernin Entertainment's Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and Kristen Campo are the executive producers for Endeavor Content. Sarah Koenig will serve as a consultant. (Deadline.com)
BIG BANG THEORY, THE (CBS) - Beth Behrs and Walton Goggins are both bound for the show's January 18 episode as Nell, "a recently separated school teacher who becomes involved with Raj. Goggins, meanwhile, will portray Nell's intense husband who tracks Raj down and confronts him." (TVLine.com)
MODERN FAMILY (ABC) - Mira Sorvino will drop by the show's January 17 installment as Nicole Rosemary Page, "a woman who runs a GOOP-esque lifestyles brand called NERP. Judging by the name and job, she's part Gwyneth Paltrow and part that lady from Moon Juice"." (THR.com)

ROLLING STONE 50 (ABC) - The Alphabet has scrapped the planned three-hour live broadcast on Wednesday, February 7. Said event, honoring the magazine's 50 years of publication, was billed as paying homage to the brand's influence and impact through a curated journey of its most seminal moments. TRUE DETECTIVE (HBO) - Stephen Dorff has scored a role on the show's third season as Roland West, "an Arkansas State Investigator who, along with his partner, has his life and career influenced over three decades by a baffling crime." Mahershala Ali and Carmen Ejogo also star. (Deadline.com)
UPLOAD (Amazon) - Robbie Amell is the first to be cast in the single-camera comedy pilot "set in the future where humans are able to "upload" themselves into their preferred choice of afterlife. When Nathan (Amell) meets his early death, he is greeted by Nora in his version of heaven. The series follows the two as Nathan grows accustomed to life away from his loved ones, and the alive Nora struggles to stay afloat working her job alongside Nathan in the afterlife." (Deadline.com)
VAN HELSING (Syfy) - Co-star Jonathan Scarfe will direct the first two episodes of the recently ordered third season. The actor also went behind the camera for two episodes last season. (Variety.com)
