FREUD (Netflix, New!) - The streaming service has ordered its first Austrian original: "a German-language period crime thriller that sees the young eponymous psychoanalyst involved in a nerve-racking investigation into a murderous conspiracy. The story sees Sigmund Freud in Vienna in 1886, just as his revolutionary theories are being met with strong opposition from colleagues and wider Austrian society. It's at this time he meets the war veteran and policeman Alfred Kiss and notorious medium Fleur Salomé and unwittingly becomes part of the hunt for a serial killer." Marvin Kren is helming the eight-episode project from scripts by himself, Stefan Brunner and Benjamin Hessler. Satel Film's Heinrich Ambrosch and Bavaria Fiction's Moritz Polter also serve as executive producers. (Deadline.com)
NIGHT MANAGER, THE (AMC) - Namsi Khan, Francesca Gardiner, Charles Cumming and Matthew Orton are reportedly set to take part in a writers' room for a potential second season of the AMC thriller. No formal renewal however has been given. (Deadline.com)
NOS4A2 (AMC) - YouTube star Jahkara Smith (aka Sailor J) will recur on the upcoming drama as Maggie Leigh, "Iowa's bubbly, purple-haired librarian with a Scrabble Bag portal to the universe." (Deadline.com)
PSYCH (USA) - The cable channel is reportedly mulling a sequel to last December's "Psych: The Movie." The project however is on hold as co-stars James Roday and Dule Hill are currently series regulars on "A Million Little Things" and "Suits," respectively. (TVLine.com, 7/3)
UNTITLED CRISTIANO RONALDO REALITY PROJECT (Facebook Watch, New!) - Global soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is in talks to star in a 13-episode docu-series for the streaming service, which "could get a paycheck of around $10 million." Matador Content and Religion of Sports are behind the project, with the former's Jay Peterson and the latter's Gotham Chopra, Michael Strahan and Tom Brady presumably executive producing.
