NEW YORK - October 2, 2018 - IFC announced today the launch of a new original digital comedy series, Fortune Rookie, on the Comedy Crib (ifc.com/comedy-crib), the network's online hub for original, short-form comedy. Created by and starring Janet Varney (Stan Against Evil, You're the Worst), Fortune Rookie follows a fictionalized version of Janet Varney who, on the advice of a fortune teller in a bathroom, decides to leave showbiz behind and become a full-time psychic. The eight-episode series joins the Comedy Crib's current array of acclaimed web series including Frank & Lamar, The Mirror and Neurotica.

Exploring her gifts (such as they are), Janet parses the future of a Los Angeles populated by the famous and the not-so-famous, from aspiring cult leaders to aging boy bands. While she reads palms, tarot cards and the occasional piece of cheese to help those seeking answers, she winds up helping herself most of all. Guest stars include Scott Adsit (Big Hero 6), Steve Agee (Adventure Time), Fred Armisen (Portlandia), Deborah Baker Jr. (Stan Against Evil), Ian Brennan (Glee), Laraine Newman (Saturday Night Live), Oscar Nunez (The Office) and James Roday (Psych).

Fortune Rookie is produced by Above Average and executive produced by Varney, Brandon R. Reynolds, Brice Beckham, David Fickas and Brett Blake. Additionally, Varney and Reynolds serve as series writers.

Since launching over two years ago, the IFC's Comedy Crib has showcased over 25 exclusive digital series, including content from partners Above Average, UCB Comedy and the Annoyance Theatre, as well as original series from both established and up-and-coming comedians. With even more development on the horizon for 2019, the popular IFC.com destination will give visitors an endless variety of off-kilter content to binge and share.
