LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
ATYPICAL (Netflix) - Eric McCormack has signed on to recur on the show's third season as "an eccentric university art professor who loves to challenge and inspire his students." (Deadline.com)
EMERGENCE (NBC) - The Allison Tolman-led drama pilot, originally shot for NBC, is reportedly now under consideration at producer ABC Studios sibling ABC. (Deadline.com)
GREY'S ANATOMY (ABC) - Chris Carmack, Jake Borelli and Greg Germann have been promoted to series regulars as part of today's two-season renewal. They play doctors Atticus "Link" Lincoln, Levi "Glasses" Schmitt and Thomas Koracick, respectively. (Deadline.com)
HEART OF LIFE (ABC) - The drama pilot, inspired by John Mayer's hit song of the same name, is "no longer in fall 2019 consideration and will undergo redevelopment." Said effort will "likely include a new take on the concept and a new script." (Deadline.com)
LINCOLN/PERFECT HARMONY (NBC) - The Peacock is reportedly in negotiations to pick up both pilots, which are produced by outside studios Sony Pictures Television and 20th Century Fox Television, respectively. (Deadline.com)
LOVECRAFT COUNTRY (HBO) - Executive producers J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele have released a statement in reaction to Georgia's controversial abortion bill this week: "In a few weeks we start shooting our new show, 'Lovecraft Country' and will do so standing shoulder to shoulder with the women of Georgia. Governor Kemp's 'Fetal Heartbeat' Abortion Law is an unconstitutional effort to further restrict women and their health providers from making private medical decisions on their terms. Make no mistake, this is an attack aimed squarely and purposely at women. We stand with Stacey Abrams and the hardworking people of Georgia, and will donate 100% of our respective episodic fees for this season to two organizations leading the charge against this draconian law: the ACLU of Georgia and Fair Fight Georgia. We encourage those who are able to funnel any and all resources to these organizations." (Deadline.com)
MIXED-ISH (ABC) - The upcoming "Black-ish" prequel series plans to recast Anders Holm's character Paul, Bow's father. It's not clear if said decision was tied to ABC holding the backdoor pilot episode until next season, allowing time for reshoots with the new actor. (Deadline.com)
NEW YORK UNDERCOVER (ABC) - The Alphabet has passed on its proposed revival of the 1990s FOX staple. Co-producer Universal Television plans to shop the project elsewhere. (Deadline.com)
SHE-RA AND THE PRINCESSES OF POWER (Netflix) - The streaming service has confirmed the animated series will return for a third season on August 2 with Oscar-winning actress Geena Davis joining the voice cast as Huntara. (@DreamWorksSheRa)
STEVE (Syndication) - Steve Harvey's syndicated talk show, the successor to 2012-17's "Steve Harvey," will sign off in June after two seasons. The show reportedly just finished taping its last original episode. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED NYPD BLUE SPIN-OFF PROJECT (ABC) - The much-ballyhooed revival series will not be going forward this fall at the Alphabet. It's understood the project "will be tweaked and likely undergo some reshoots for midseason consideration." (Deadline.com)
