Netflix's Japanese original series "ALICE IN BORDERLAND" costars with KENTO YAMAZAKI and TAO TSUCHIYA

ALICE IN BORDERLAND based on the popular manga by HARO ASO about a thrilling life-or-death game Directed by SHUNSUKE SATO (of 'I AM A HERO' and 'KINGDOM' fame)

Tokyo, August 5, 2019 - Netflix, world's leading internet entertainment service, announces ALICE IN BORDERLAND, based on a survival and thriller manga (originally published in Weekly Shonen Sunday S / Weekly Shonen Sunday) by HARO ASO, costars with KENTO YAMAZAKI and TAO TSUCHIYA. ALICE IN BORDERLAND will be released in 2020.

KENTO YAMAZAKI is known for his latest smash-hit movie, KINGDOM, and his voice-acting role as the lead character in NINOKUNI, an animation film to be released in August 2019. TAO TSUCHIYA played her first dubbing actress for Charlie in BUMBLEBEE this year. She was ranked No. 1 in the female talent who appeared most in Commercial Message (CM) for the first half of 2019 in Japan.

Reunion of KENTO YAMAZAKI & SHINSUKE SATO, the team from KINGDOM

TAO TSUCHIYA has returned to the team SATO after LIBRARY WAR

Director SHINSUKE SATO undertakes the insurmountable task of adapting HARO ASO's spectacular and complex world into a live-action movie. SATO has demonstrated his extremely talented skills in the visualization of manga such as I AM A HERO, GANTZ, INUYASHIKI, and quite recently KINGDOM, which depicted Spring and Autumn Warring State in Ancient China, based on YASUHISA HARA's popular manga series. All these titles were deemed impossible to be made into movies, however, with tactfully rewritten storylines that are faithful to the original story ideas coupled with exceptionally high-quality productions, SATO has fascinated a wide range of audience.

The amazing teamwork of KENTO YAMAZAKI and SHINSUKE SATO that is still vivid from KINGDOM has already reunited for another legendary work! TAO TSUCHIYA, who has previously teamed up with SATO in LIBRARY WAR, will take on the challenge of a role that would maximize her physical acting skills.

Being forced to enter a game, will they survive?

Ryohei Alice (Alice), a listless, jobless and video-game-obsessed young man sees a strange light and suddenly finds himself in a mysteriously emptied out version of Tokyo along with his two best friends. They quickly discover that in this world, they must compete in one dangerous game after another in order to survive. This is a sci-fi thriller that combines the drama of human survival with the suspense of psychological gamesmanship.

KENTO YAMAZAKI is to play Alice, the male leading role, and TAO TSUCHIYA is to play Usagi, the female leading role - a climber with stunning physical ability who chances upon Alice in the venue of the game.

Netflix has vigorously produced its original series from Japan such as THE NAKED DIRECTOR, THE FOREST OF LOVE and FOLLOWERS. ALICE IN BORDERLAND is to be released in 2020.
