An Animated Variety Series Featuring Daily Segments and Weekly Full Episodes

PASADENA, Calif. - Jan. 12, 2020 - CBS All Access, CBS' digital subscription video on-demand and live streaming service, today announced plans for a new animated variety series, TOONING OUT THE NEWS. A CBS Television Studios production, the series is executive produced by Stephen Colbert and Chris Licht of CBS' THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT, and RJ Fried and Tim Luecke from SHOWTIME's OUR CARTOON PRESIDENT.
TOONING OUT THE NEWS will provide short daily segments leading up to a weekly full episodes featuring a cast of animated characters mocking news of the day, and interviewing real-world guests and newsmakers. The announcement was made by Julie McNamara, Executive Vice President of Original Content for CBS All Access, during the service's biannual Television Critics Association presentation.
"The minute the imaginators at TOONING OUT THE NEWS decked their bleeding edge ideation bizmeth, I knew that the news jackers were ripe for our freemium growth hack pivot," said Colbert. TOONING OUT THE NEWS joins CBS All Access' growing slate of original series which currently includes THE GOOD FIGHT, NO ACTIVITY, TELL ME A STORY, THE TWILIGHT ZONE, WHY WOMEN KILL and the forthcoming INTERROGATION, THE STAND and THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH, with additional series soon to be announced.
