BIG LEAP, THE (FOX) - Liz Heldens has scored a pilot commitment from the network for her long-in-the-works drama. 20th Century Fox Television and FOX Entertainment are behind the hour with Sue Naegle also serving as an executive producer. Its logline is as follows: "Inspired by a UK format, THE BIG LEAP is a funny and contemporary tale about second chances, chasing your dreams and taking back what's yours. The show centers on a group of diverse underdogs from all different walks of life who compete to be part of a competition reality series that is putting on a modern, hip remake of "Swan Lake." What they lack in the traditional dancer body type, they make up for with their edge, wit and desire to reimagine an iconic story to fit their own mold. THE BIG LEAP takes us on a journey of self-acceptance, body-positivity and empowerment at any age."
DEPUTY (FOX) - Jenny Gago will recur on the newcomer as Anjelica Reyes, "a smart, wise, loving woman who is the mother to Paula (Yara Martinez)." (Deadline.com)
IN FROM THE COLD (Netflix, New!) - Margarita Levieva is attached to star in an eight-episode international spy thriller at the streaming service in which "during a European vacation with her daughter, an American single mom's (Levieva) life is turned upside down when the CIA forces her to confront her long-buried past as a Russian spy who was also the product of a highly classified KGB experiment granting her special abilities. After a mysterious string of manic and murderous incidents suggests someone with her exact abilities is targeting innocent people, Jenny is forced out of hiding to stop this villain or risk losing the family and new life she has built." Adam Glass is behind the project, which is set to being production in March. No other auspices were given. (Deadline.com)
MOTHERLAND: FORT SALEM (Freeform) - Sarah Yarkin has booked a recurring role on the upcoming drama as Libba Swythe, "a coldly upper-class, athletic, ruthlessly ambitious young woman who has an old grudge against Abigail." (Deadline.com)
REDEEMER (FX, New!) - "True Detective" alums Matthew McConaughey and Nic Pizzolatto are set to re-team for a new drama which stars McConaughey as "a minister-turned-dissolute security guard whose search for a missing woman in Texas leads him through a corruption-steeped criminal conspiracy, as his past and present impact and entwine around a mystery of escalating violence and deceit." The project, which has a script-to-series commitment, is inspired by Patrick Coleman's debut novel "The Churchgoer." Pizzolatto will pen the script and executive produce alongside McConaughey for Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions, home to his newly signed overall deal. McConaughey likewise recently inked a first-look deal with FX Productions. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED ANIELLO, DOWNS & STATSKY PROJECT (HBO Max, New!) - "Broad City" alums Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs and Jen Statsky have scored a pilot order from the network for a new comedy about "a dark mentorship that forms between two women from different generations - a Las Vegas diva and an entitled, outcast 25-year-old." The trio penned the pilot script with Aniello slated to direct. They'll likewise executive produce via Downs and Aniello's Paulilu banner alongside Morgan Sackett, Fremulon's Michael Schur and 3 Arts Entertainment's David Miner for Universal Television. (Deadline.com)
ZERO CHILL (Netflix, New!) - The streaming service has commissioned 10 episodes from Lime Pictures for a new series which "follows 15-year old figure skater Kayla, whose life is up-ended from Canada to the UK when her twin brother Mac gets a place at a legendary hockey academy. Distraught at her parents' decision to put her brother's ambitions before her own, Kayla must find her place on the ice again in the shadow of her superstar brother." Kirstie Falkous and John Regier are behind the project with Adam Usden, Angelo Abela and Tim Compton also presumably executive producing. Grace Beedie and Dakota Benjamin Taylor star as Kayla and Mac, respectively, with Sarah Jane Potts, Doug Rao, Jade Ma, Oscar Skagerberg, Stanislaus Steinbichler and Christina Tam in unspecified roles.
