AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER (Netflix) - Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, co-creators of the original series, have bowed out of the show's live-action adaptation at the streaming service. "Many of you have been asking me for updates about the Avatar live-action Netflix series. I can finally tell you that I am no longer involved with the project. In June of this year, after two years of development work, Bryan Konietzko and I made the difficult decision to leave the production," the former said via an open letter. Netflix released its own statement saying: "We have complete respect and admiration for Michael and Bryan and the story that they created in the Avatar animated series. Although they have chosen to depart the live action project, we are confident in the creative team and their adaptation." (Deadline.com)
FOR LIFE (ABC) - Creator Hank Steinberg has signed a massive five-year overall deal with the show's producer, Sony Pictures Television. The pact covers his duties as showrunner and executive producer as well as any future development via his Channel Road Productions banner. (Deadline.com)
GENERALS ROW (NBC, New!) - Jason Wilborn has set up a potential drama at the network about "a trailblazing female general who joins the military's most exclusive club - the Joint Chiefs of Staff - and moves her family into a neighborhood rife with cutthroat politics, blind ambition, and where daily battles over duty, honor, and tradition are every bit as tough as those waged inside the Pentagon." DiVide Pictures' Milo Ventimiglia and Russ Cundif also executive produce for 20th Century Fox Television with Deanna Harris as a producer. (Deadline.com)
JADE CITY (Peacock, New!) - Writer Dave Kalstein and director Breck Eisner are developing a TV series at the streaming service based on the first book in Fonda Lee's bestselling fantasy trilogy "The Green Bone Saga," billed as "an epic saga of magic and martial arts where two rival clans will fight to the bitter end for love, honor and power. Set in an Asia-inspired fantasy metropolis reminiscent of 70s Hong Kong, jade holds mystical powers and our two warring families will fight to the end over its control." Dean Georgaris is also on board to executive produce for Universal Television with Lee as a consulting producer. (Deadline.com)
LACE (UMC, New!) - Katrina Y. Nelson has scored a six-episode order from the streaming service for a new drama which "will follow a prolific Los Angeles attorney who often blurs the lines between right and wrong to protect her rich and powerful clientele." The project comes from Kemy Time Productions and Cultivate Entertainment with Adam Starks, Tracy Grant, Michelle Ebony Hardy, Brett Dismuke and Nikki Love also among the executive producers. Jamal Hill is in talks to direct with Anniken Albu co-producing and Sean Mik'ael Butler and Patrick Strøm producing. Production is slated to begin in March 2021. (Deadline.com)
