ALWAYS WRIGHT (NBC, New!) - Sonay Hoffman has sold a potential drama to the network about in which "a young, wealthy and jet-setting African-American couple solve mysteries, run their own successful empires, and, oh yeah, are completely head-over-heels in love with each other." Silver Lining Entertainment's Rob Golenberg will also executive produce for Sony Pictures Television. (Deadline.com)
AMERICANAH (HBO Max) - The streaming service is no longer moving forward with its Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie adaptation after star Lupita Nyong'o was forced to bow out of the project due to scheduling conflicts. Originally set to start shooting earlier this year, production dates were pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in said conflict. Danai Gurira, Uzo Aduba, Corey Hawkins, Zackary Momoh, and Tireni Oyenusi were also attached to star. (Variety.com)
DINO DAYCARE (Netflix, New!) - Jeff King has landed an animated series at the streaming service for Chris Nee's Laughing Wild banner. The logline is as follows: "In a world where the dinosaurs never went extinct - and now live alongside humans - we follow a six-year-old human boy named Cole as he helps out at Dino Daycare, a nursery for baby Dinos of all shapes and sizes. Though Cole might not be as big and strong as his dad, Teddy, or his T-Rex "aunt" Dinah who runs the daycare, he shows us that he's got what it takes to care for Earth's mightiest creatures. Proving that kindness and caring are powerful forms of strength, and that the toughest muscle in our body... is our heart." (Deadline.com)
INTERIOR CHINATOWN (Hulu, New!) - Charles Yu is developing a small screen take on his latest novel, which "follows the story of an Asian-American actor struggling against clichéd roles and stereotypes, both at work and in his personal life." Participant's Miura Kite and Rideback's Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore and Elsie Choi will also executive produce. (Variety.com)
RESIDENT, THE (FOX) - Conrad Ricamora will recur on the upcoming season as Jake Wong, "a handsome gay plastic surgeon, and amateur singer-songwriter in his off hours. Jake used to be Dr. Bell's (Bruce Greenwood) stepson half a lifetime ago, but their relationship ended bitterly when Bell divorced his mother." (Deadline.com)
RIDLEY JONES (Netflix, New!) - Chris Nee and her Laughing Wild banner have set up another animated series at the streaming service. The project, from Brown Bag Films, is detailed as follows: "An action-adventure preschool series following six-year-old Ridley Jones who, alongside her mother and grandmother, is a protector of the museum she calls home. Keeping the exhibits safe takes a real hero, especially since every night when the lights go out and the doors lock shut, the exhibits - stampeding elephants, astronaut chimps, Egyptian mummies - come to life! Throughout her many adventures, Ridley will find that being a good protector - and leader - is about finding common ground and respecting others, no matter what our differences might be." (Deadline.com)
SPIRIT RANGERS (Netflix, New!) - Karissa Valencia is spearheading a new animated series at the streaming service for Chris Nee's Laughing Wild and Superprod Animation. It is described as: "Created by Chumash tribal member, Karissa Valencia, Spirit Rangers is a fantasy-adventure preschool series following Native American sibling trio Kodiak, Summer and Eddy Skycedar, who have a shared secret-they're "Spirit Rangers!" Spirit Rangers can transform into their own animal spirit to help protect the National Park they call home. With the blessing of the Chumash and Cowlitz tribes, we'll join the Skycedar kids on their magical adventures with spirits inspired by indigenous stories." (Deadline.com)
