CLEAN SLATE (IMDb TV) - The Laverne Cox/George Wallace-led comedy, originally set up at Peacock, has found a new home at IMDb TV. In the project, old school car wash owner, Henry, is thrilled that his estranged child is returning to Alabama after 17 years. However, Henry has a lot of soul searching to do when the child he thought was a son returns as the determined, proud, trans woman, Desiree. Cox and Wallace wrote the story with Dan Ewen, with Ewen, Cox, Norman Lear and Brent Miller executive producing for Act III Productions and Sony Pictures Television. Wallace will be a producer. (Deadline.com)
FROM SCRATCH (Netflix) - Nzingha Stewart has signed on to direct five episodes - including the pilot - of the long-in-the-works Zoe Saldana-led drama. Stewart will also serve as producing director on the project, which begins production this spring. (Deadline.com)
KUNG FU (The CW) - Bradley Gibson will recur on the reboot series as Joe Harper: "He is described as a man in his 20s who is a graphic artist and community organizer in Oakland. Joe is funny, sexy, hip - deeply serious about his work and his activism, but equally committed to the joys of life: friendship, art, love." (Deadline.com)
LOTERIA (IMDb TV, New!) - Felipe Vargas has sold a new drama to the streamer based on the card game, which "follows two estranged teen siblings who set off on an adventure across Mexico to collect 16 magical Lotería cards, unearthing the power of their history and culture in the hope of reuniting their family." Norman Lear and Brent Miller of Act III Productions will also executive produce alongside Alberto Belli and Juan Pablo Reyes for Sony Pictures Television. Vargas will serve as a co-executive producer. (Deadline.com)
MODERN LOVE (Amazon) - The anthology's second season has cast 29 actors in yet-to-be-revealed roles: Gbenga Akinnagbe, Susan Blackwell, Lucy Boynton, Tom Burke, Zoe Chao, Maria Dizzia, Minnie Driver, Grace Edwards, Dominique Fishback, Kathryn Gallagher, Kit Harington, Garrett Hedlund, Telci Huynh, Nikki M. James, Aparna Nancherla, Larry Owens, Zane Pais, Anna Paquin, Isaac Powell, Ben Rappaport, Milan Ray, Jack Reynor, Miranda Richardson, Marquis Rodriguez, James Scully, Zuzanna Szadkowski, Lulu Wilson, Don Wycherley, and Jeena Yi. (Deadline.com)
OUTER RANGE (Amazon) - Matt Lauria has booked a role on the Josh Brolin-led drama as "a member of the Abbotts rival family the Tillersons. His Trevor is the eldest of the three Tillerson brothers and the temperamental workhorse of his family. He takes out his frustrations on his neighbors, the Abbotts, and his aggression manages to move the simmering feud to a rolling boil whenever he crosses paths with an Abbott." (TVLine.com)
PROMISED LAND (A.K.A. AMERICAN HERITAGE) (ABC) - Matt Lopez's drama - about "two Latinx families vying for wealth and power in California's Sonoma Valley" - is the latest to score a pilot order from the Alphabet. Adam Kolbrenner is also executive producing for ABC Signature. (Variety.com)
ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO (The CW) - Quentin Plair will recur on the upcoming season as Dallas, "a charmingly enigmatic preacher with the ability to divine people's troubles and provide them with the counsel they seek. He is thoughtful and well-versed in many religions. He has a passion for music and is able to quote scripture and lyics from Biggie Smalls in the same breath. Dallas draws others into his orbit with his unique outlook on the big mysteries of life and will cross paths with Rosa during a pivotal point on her road to recovery." (Deadline.com)
SIMPSONS, THE (FOX) - Veteran voice actor Kevin Michael Richardson has been tapped to take over the role of Dr. Julius Hibbert. He'll succeed Harry Shearer, whose final episode aired last night, as the series announced in June white actors will no longer voicing Black characters on the show. Shearer will continue to voice Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner and Mr. Burns, among others. (Deadline.com)
SOCIETY OF EXPLORERS AND ADVENTURERS, THE (Disney+, New!) - Ronald D. Moore is spearheading a new franchise for the streamer "set in a world where all the themed lands and characters of the Disney parks and classic films actually exist in another reality." 20th Television is producing the project - which would "explore characters - like sea boat captain from the Jungle Cruise or prospector from Big Thunder Mountain or the climbers of the Matterhorn, for example - as part of the world of The Society of Explorers and Adventurers" - with Maril Davis and Ben McGinnis of Tall Ship Productions also executive producing. It's understood a "mini-writers room is already being put together with a search under way for three senior-level writers." (THR.com)
SUCCESSION (HBO) - Hope Davis has signed onto the new season for a multi-episode arc as Sandi Furness, "daughter to Logan Roy's long-time rival, Sandy Furness (Larry Pine)." (Deadline.com)
