HBO MAX ACQUIRES LISSETTE FELICIANO'S DEBUT FEATURE "WOMEN IS LOSERS"

THE FILM WILL BEGIN STREAMING EXCLUSIVELY ON HBO MAX ON OCTOBER 18

NEW YORK/LOS ANGELES (September 14, 2021) - HBO Max has acquired North American rights to Lissette Feliciano's debut feature WOMEN IS LOSERS. The 1960's set drama starring Lorenza Izzo (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood; Knock, Knock), Chrissie Fit (Pitch Perfect 2 & 3), and Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings) premiered at SXSW this spring and was written and directed by Lissette Feliciano, and produced by Feliciano and David Ortiz. WOMEN IS LOSERS will begin streaming exclusively on HBO Max on October 18.

In 1960's San Francisco, a once-promising catholic schoolgirl, Celina Guerrera (Lorenza Izzo), sets out to rise above the oppression of poverty and invest in a future for herself that sets new precedents for the time. Inspired by real women and the Janis Joplin song of the same title.

WOMEN IS LOSERS made its World Premiere at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival, where it was one of the most streamed films of the festival. The film has continued to find success on the festival circuit, winning awards for best Narrative Feature at the 2021 Oxford Film Festival and 2021 Columbus Film + Animation Festival. Additionally, it won the award in American Independents Competition at the 2021 Cleveland International Film Festival. Bryan Craig ('General Hospital', 'Valor'), Steven Bauer (Scarface), Liza Weil ('How to Get Away with Murder', 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel'), Cranston Johnson ('Euphoria'), Alessandra Torresani, Shalim Ortiz ('Power Book II: Ghost', 'All Rise') and Lincoln Bonilla ('Jane the Virgin', 'Station 19') round out the cast.

"We set out to make a film that was as bold, funny, and honest as the women that inspired it," says Feliciano. "We could think of no better time in our nation's history for this film to reach the women of America. This is one you're going to want to watch with your family. We've found the perfect partner in HBO Max who are known for their provocative and entertaining content. This film is an inter-generational story and at its core is about always having hope no matter how big the obstacles. Lorenza Izzo, Chrissie Fit, Simu Liu, and Bryan Craig give their hearts in these performances. I can't wait for you all to see them."

The deal was negotiated by Andrew Herwitz and Lucas Verga from The Film Sales Company on behalf of the filmmakers and Leslie Cohen for HBO Max. International rights are now available. Feliciano is represented by Verve, Authentic, Adelman Matz, and 42West.
