LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
ALERT (FOX, New!) - John Eisendrath has sold a new drama to the network in which "when Nikki Parker's son goes missing, she joins the LAPD's Missing Person's Unit to help other people find their loved ones even as she searches for her own. Six years later, her world is turned upside down when her ex-husband Devon Zion shows up with a proof-of-life photo of their missing boy. Or is it? Alert is described as a procedural drama with a life-or-death search for a missing person in each episode that runs alongside Nikki and Devon's series-long quest to find out the truth about the person claiming to be their long-lost son." FOX Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television are behind the project, which has a back-up script commitment plus penalty. Jamie Foxx and Datari Turner are also executive producing. (Deadline.com)
BLACKLIST, THE (NBC) - Executive producer John Eisendrath has signed a new three-year, eight-figure overall deal with Sony Pictures Television, keeping him at the studio through 2025. (Deadline.com)
DEAR WHITE PEOPLE (Netflix) - Executive producer Stephanie Allain has signed a new first-look deal with Warner Bros. Television Group, extending her Homegrown Pictures' pact which started in February 2020. (Deadline.com)
FLEABAG (Amazon) - Executive producer Lydia Hampson has signed a first-look deal with Amazon Studios. Hampson had since served as Amazon Studios Head of UK Scripted before departing for indie Sister. (Deadline.com)
GIRLS5EVA (Peacock) - Amy Sedaris and Neil Flynn have been cast as the parents of Busy Philipps's character Summer Dutkowsky in the upcoming season. (Variety.com, 3/13)
JOSEP (ABC) - Kaden Alejandro has been cast in the Jo Koy-led comedy pilot as Miles: "The son of Jo and Cheryl, Miles is comfortable with the idea of his parents' divorce - in fact, he appears to be the most well-adjusted member of the entire family. Miles has very little interest in traditional Filipino culture; his dad raised him on hip-hop, and he prefers orange chicken to any Filipino dish. His grandmother Lorna (Mia Katigbak) plans to become a strong Filipino presence in his too-Americanized life." (Deadline.com)
MS. MARVEL (Disney+) - Anjali Bhimani will recur on the Marvel Studios series in a yet-to-be-revealed role. (Deadline.com)
NEW AMSTERDAM (NBC) - The medical drama will call it quits after its previously ordered fifth season, consisting of 13 episodes. "The story of Max Goodwin, and his never-ending commitment to patients at New Amsterdam, has been inspiring," said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Programming, NBCUniversal Television & Streaming. "We're so grateful to David Schulner, Peter Horton, and our cast and crew for their incredible dedication, talent and collaboration." (Deadline.com)
PANTHEON (AMC) - William Hurt, who passed away on Sunday at age 71, had completed his voice work on the series prior to his death. Said role of legendary genius billionaire Stephen Holstrom is believed to be the last role he'd completed. (Deadline.com, 3/13)
TREASON (Netflix) - Oscar nominee Ciarán Hinds has signed onto the spy drama series as Sir Martin Angelis, "the boss and mentor of Charlie Cox's Adam." (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED SCOTT PRENDERGAST PROJECT (CBS) - Skylar Astin will star opposite Geena Davis in the drama pilot, which follows Todd (Astin), "a talented but directionless P.I. who is the black sheep of his family. Despite their opposing personalities, he agrees to work as the in-house investigator for his overbearing mother, Joan (Davis), a successful attorney reeling from the recent dissolution of her marriage." Adding, "Todd's life is currently in shambles. He is the "problem child" of his family and a disappointment to his super-achieving mom. A former private detective, he lost his license after some messy misunderstandings. Quick on his feet - and a little too quick to resort to lying in order to get what he needs - Todd may be unorthodox, but he is impressively good at what he does. He's also a master of tech, scrappy surveillance and social media." (Deadline.com)
YOUNG ROCK (NBC) - Sean Astin is bound for the new season as Dr. Echo, "who had run-ins with Dwayne as a kid, is now a chiropractor from Minnesota who holds a grudge. He reappears two weeks before election day, claiming that Dwayne tried to kill him, a revelation that threatens to derail the Johnson presidential campaign." (Deadline.com)
