AMERICAN BORN CHINESE (Disney+) - Poppy Liu will guest on the upcoming drama as Princess Iron Fan, "who is described as enchanting and as possessing magical powers." (Variety.com)
BIG CIGAR, THE (Apple TV+) - Alessandro Nivola has been cast in the André Holland-led limited series, which "tells the extraordinary, hilarious, almost-too-good-to-be-true story of how [Black Panther leader Huey P.] Newton relied on his best friend, Bert Schneider (Nivola), the Hollywood producer behind Easy Rider, to elude a nationwide manhunt and escape to Cuba while being pursued into exile by the FBI." GOVERNMENT CHEESE (Apple TV+, New!) - David Oyelowo is attached to star in a proposed drama series at the streamer about Hampton Chambers (Oyelowo), "a man recently released from prison who struggles to keep his criminal past at bay and win back his family, all while processing moments of divine intervention that seem to happen with increasing frequency." Aeysha Carr and Paul Hunter are behind the project, which is based on the latter's short film of the same name. Oyelowo, Charles D. King, Marta Fernandez, Jelani Johnson and Ahmadou Seck will also executive produce for MACRO Television Studios, Yoruba Saxon, Ventureland and Apple Studios with Ali Brown as a co-executive producer. GREASE: RISE OF THE PINK LADIES (Paramount+) - Executive producer Annabel Oakes has signed an overall deal with the show's producer, Paramount Television Studios. (Deadline.com)
LOOT (Apple TV+) - Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne's Animal Pictures has signed a first-look deal with the streaming service. The company previously had a first-look TV deal with Amazon Studios. (Deadline.com)
OUTLANDER (Starz) - Izzy Meikle-Small and Joey Phillips are both bound for the show's seventh season as Rachel Hunter and Dr. Denzell Hunter, respectively: "Dr. Denzell Hunter has been trained in medicine in Boston and London. As a firm believer in liberty, he is preparing to join the Revolutionary Army as a surgeon. His younger sister Rachel is modest but shows flashes of a fiery spirit that attracts the admiration of both William and Young Ian." (Deadline.com)
RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES, THE (HBO) - Kristen Johnston will recur on the upcoming nine-episode season as May-May Montgomery, "who is said to have a history with the Gemstone family." (Variety.com)
UNTITLED DANIEL RICCIARDO PROJECT (Hulu, New!) - Driver Daniel Ricciardo is developing a half-hour scripted series at the streamer set in the world of Formula 1 racing. Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Phoebe Zimmer and Sydney Title will also executive produce for Lionsgate Television and Temple Hill Productions. The search is underway for a writer. (THR.com)
