BUTTERFLY (Amazon, New!) - Daniel Dae Kim is attached to star in a series adaptation of the graphic novel from Arash Amel, Marguerite Bennett, Antonio Fuso and Stefano Simeone, which centers on David Jung, "an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea, whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca, a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him." Ken Woodruff and Steph Cha are penning the script with Kim, Amel, John Cheng, Stephen Christy and Ross Richie also executive producing for 3AD, BOOM! Studios, The Amel Company and Amazon Studios. Adam Yoelin serves as a co-executive producer. (Variety.com)
EMPTY MANSIONS (HBO, New!) - Writer Ido Fluk and director Joe Wright are spearheading a TV series based on Bill Dedman and Paul Clark Newell, Jr.'s nonfiction book, subtitled "The Mysterious Life of Huguette Clark and the Spending of a Great American Fortune," which "follows Huguette Clark, an elderly, fabulously wealthy recluse who is hospitalized for a number of seemingly minor ailments and a series of events is set into motion regarding her fortune and an unsigned will." FAWLTY TOWERS (New!) - John Cleese is looking to revive his British comedy sensation with Castle Rock Entertainment. No network is currently attached the project, which Cleese is set to write and star alongside daughter Camilla Cleese with Rob Reiner, Michele Reiner, Derrick Rossi and Matthew George likewise executive producing. Said report indicates "the new series will explore how Cleese's over-the-top, cynical and misanthropic Basil Fawlty navigates the modern world. Plot details are largely being kept under wraps but the development will bring the story forward to explore Basil's relationship with a daughter he has just discovered he had, as the pair tempt fate and team up to run a boutique hotel." GOLDBERGS, THE (ABC) - A.J. Michalka is set to reprise her role as Barry's ex-fiancée Lainey Lewis in show's February 22 episode. (Deadline.com)
STEPHEN COLBERT PRESENTS TOONING OUT THE NEWS (Comedy Central) - The cable channel has extended the show's linear run to 25 original installments, ahead of its Special Coverage of the State of the Union episode on February 8. (Deadline.com)
THREE WOMEN (Starz) - The series is on track to land at Starz after being cut by Showtime last month. Production on the project, starring Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin and DeWanda Wise has already been completed. (THR.com)
UNTITLED J. EDGAR BOSCH SPIN-OFF PROJECT (Amazon, New!) - Jamie Hector is in talks to reprise his "Bosch" character J. Edgar on a spin-off series for Amazon Studios. Michael Connelly and Larry Andries are behind the project, detailed as follows: "A police drama following Harry Bosch's former partner, Detective Jerry Edgar, who is tapped for an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami. In this glamourous city, he is forced to balance his new life with the gritty underbelly of the city, while being chased by his mysterious past." Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate of Fabel Entertainment will also executive produce with Jasmine Russ as a co-executive producer. It's unclear if the proposed series will be for Amazon or sibling Freevee, home to "Bosch: Legacy." (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED JOE BARTON PROJECT (Amazon, New!) - Writer Joe Barton and director Michael Bay are set to team for a potential drama at the streamer which "centers on an American bounty hunter working South of the border who finds himself in a desperate fight for survival when the man he's been chasing down lands them both in trouble with the Mexican cartel." The pair will also executive produce alongside Brad Fuller for A+E Studios, Platinum Dunes, Amazon Studios, Range Media Partners and Wise Entertainment. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED RENEE BALLARD BOSCH SPIN-OFF PROJECT (Amazon, New!) - Amazon Studios is looking to expand its "Bosch" universe with a new spin-off featuring Michael Connelly's yet-to-be-introduced character from the book series, Renee Ballard. Connelly, Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood are behind the project, which is detailed as follows: "Detective Renee Ballard is tasked with running the LAPD's new cold case division. Beyond simply investigating unsolved crimes, Renee is dedicated to bringing credibility to the department and justice to the community. Having learned from retired ally and mentor Harry Bosch, Renee does things her way - solving cases in unconventional ways while navigating the politics of being a woman on the rise in the LAPD." Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate of Fabel Entertainment will also executive produce with Jasmine Russ as a co-executive producer. VENERY OF SAMANTHA BIRD, THE (Starz) - Henry Czerny and Doug Savant will both recur on the upcoming drama starring Katherine Langford. Czerny will play Teddy, "Samantha's father and a former artist and teacher. Theodore "Teddy" Bird moves to Little Yorn with his wife, Nan, reuniting with their longtime friends, Al and Carol Minot." And Savant is Al Minot, "a sharp businessman who is deeply invested in maintaining the town of Little Yorn as it has been for generations." (Deadline.com)
