EAST NEW YORK (CBS) - Kelly Hu is slated to recur on the freshman drama as Allison Cha, "a tenacious and straightforward political policy advisor brought into shadow Suarez (Jimmy Smits) to understand the day-to-day duties of the NYPD." (Deadline.com)
KAY SCARPETTA (Amazon, New!) - Oscar winner Nicole Kidman is on track to star in a new TV series based on Patricia Cornwell's literary hero at the streamer, "a brilliant forensic pathologist, inspired by former Virginia Chief Medical Examiner Marcella Farinelli Fierro, who uses forensic technology to solve crimes." The project is nearing a two-season straight-to-series order of eight episodes each. Oscar nominee Jamie Lee Curtis is also said to be on board as Kay's flighty sister, Dorothy, "the mother of Lucy Farinelli who is a recurring character in the book series." Elizabeth Sarnoff is spearheading the script with Kidman, Cornwell, Curtis, Per Saari, Jason Blum, Chris McCumber, Jeremy Gold and Chris Dickie also executive producing for Blossom Films, Comet Pictures, Amazon Studios and Blumhouse Television. LOVE IS BLIND: UK (Netflix, New!) - CPL Productions is set to produce an U.K. incarnation of the successful Netflix franchise. Brazilian and Japanese editions have both rolled out since the U.S. original's launch. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED WAYANS PROJECT (CBS) - The multi-camera comedy starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. has landed a pilot order. The elder Wayans and Kevin Hench are behind the project, which "centers on a legendary talk radio host and happily divorced "Poppa" (Wayans) who has his point of view challenged at work when a new female co-host is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son (Wayans Jr.), a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband." Kameron Tarlow of Two Shakes Entertainment will executive produce alongside said trio for CBS Studios. (Deadline.com)
WYTCHES (Amazon, New!) - Scott Snyder and Mark "Jock" Simpson's comic book is being eyed as an adult animated series at the streamer. The project tells the story of "17-year-old Sailor Rooks, whose family moves to a remote New England town after a tragic accident, only to discover that a burrow of monsters - ancient creatures that prey on our darkest fears and desires - lurks beneath the town." The pair will executive produce alongside Kevin Kolde for Plan B Entertainment, Project 51 Productions and Amazon Studios. No writer was indicated. (Variety.com)
