BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID SERIES (Amazon) - Alex Metcalf has been tapped to serve as showrunner of the proposed Regé-Jean Page/Glen Powell-led drama alongside creators Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo. (Deadline.com)
DISENGAGEMENT (HBO, New!) - Robin Thede is developing a new comedy series at the network which "centers on the prestigious Cole family after a very public and embarrassing business implosion shattered their perfect Midwest image. And it was just an image, because, behind closed doors, even their dysfunction has dysfunction, proving family is the ultimate pyramid scheme." Meghan Cheek will also produce through Thede's production company, For Better or Words, Inc. (Deadline.com)
L WORD, THE: GENERATION Q (Showtime) - The cable channel has canceled the sequel series after three seasons. Nonetheless, the franchise may continue with "The L Word: New York," a reboot of the 2004 original from creator Ilene Chaiken. No details however were given about the project, which is in active development. (Deadline.com)
TOP GEAR (BBC America) - The series has been "put on hold following last year's Andrew Flintoff crash, with a decision on the show's future set to be made 'later this year.'" (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED NEWCASTLE UNITED PROJECT (Amazon, New!) - The streamer has commissioned a documentary series from Lorton Entertainment about Newcastle United Football Club, "exploring the Saudi-owned club." Clare Cameron and John Douglas are the executive producers. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED WAYANS PROJECT (CBS) - Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson have both been cast in the Damon Wayans/Damon Wayans Jr.-led comedy pilot, which has also added Andy Ackerman as director and executive producer. Atkins plays Dr. Ivy Reed, "an intelligent, savvy and bold, Ivy is the host of the “Ask Doctor Reed” radio show where she gives helpful advice to listeners with a modern approach on life. When the network wants to modernize Poppa's outdated routine, Ivy joins him as a co-host; she quickly dismantles his old-school arguments, and a new rivalry is instantly born." And Jackson is Nina, "Junior's loving, real and detail oriented wife. She is his biggest supporter, but his biggest motivator as well. She doesn't want Junior to give up his dream, but hopes he can focus more on work in the meantime - she's already raising two kids and can't have him acting like a third. Even with all the distractions and family drama, Nina and Junior always make a great team." (Deadline.com)
WALKER (The CW) - "Walker: Independence" co-star Justin Johnson Cortez will drop by the parent series as Sonny Alcala, "a shrewd Homicide Detective who got his start working closely with Cordell Walker (Jared Padalecki) and Captain James (Coby Bell) on a case years ago. The Detective initially calls Walker as a courtesy to let him know of a death relating to a case, but something doesn't quite add up." (Deadline.com)
