MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, THE (Amazon, New!) - Nic Pizzolatto is spearheading a new TV take on the franchise at Amazon Studios: "The Magnificent Seven series reboot is described as being in the tradition of the great epics from the golden age of Westerns. An outlaw and his cohorts must unite a disparate band of indelible fighters to defend a settlement of immigrant homesteaders in an open range war against cattle barons in central Texas, telling an expansive saga of adventure, action and romance." The project morphed out of an original concept Pizzolatto sold to the streamer last month with a series commitment. Mark Johnson remains an executive producer along with Lawrence Mirisch and Bruce Kaufman. Pizzolatto co-wrote the 2016 film of the same name. (Deadline.com)
MYSTERY 101 (HMC) - The cable channel has formally axed the series of TV films. (Variety.com)
PRETTY LITTLE WIFE (Amazon, New!) - Gabrielle Union is attached to star in a small screen take on Darby Kane's novel at the streamer, "a cat-and-mouse thriller with a pulpy edge and some sexy soap that centers around two brilliant - and very different - Black women: Lily, the pretty little wife suspected of murdering her husband, and Ginny, the detective on the case. Upon entering each other's lives, they begin to crack open each other's façade to reveal what really lies beneath." Meredith Lavender, Marcie Ulin and Kristen SaBerre will write and executive produce alongside Union, Barry Jossen, Tana Jamieson for Amazon Studios, A+E Studios, I'll Have Another Productions and Range Media Partners. (Deadline.com)
TRUTH BE TOLD (Apple TV+) - Star Octavia Spencer took to social media with the news the series won't return for a fourth season. (@octaviaspencer)
WHEEL OF TIME, THE (Amazon) - The show's second season has cast the following in recurring roles: Maja Simonsen and Ragga Ragnars as Chiad and Bain, "a Maiden of the Spear of the Stones River sept of the Goshien Aiel who is bonded as a first-sister to Bain"; Jay Duffy as Dain Bornhald, "a high-ranking officer of the Children of the Light"; and Rima Te Wiata as Sheriam Bayanar, "an influential Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah." (Deadline.com, 4/22)
