BBC Comedy orders a second series of "Juice" and "Such Brave Girls"

The shows have both enjoyed critical acclaim, as well as a whole host of awards nominations

BBC Comedy has recommissioned Juice and Such Brave Girls for a second outing following successful launches in 2023. Both shows, made by Various Artists Limited (VAL), have received a number of awards nominations including BAFTA TV nominations for Male Performance in a Comedy (Mawaan Rizwan) and Scripted Comedy (Such Brave Girls).

Jon Petrie, Head of Comedy BBC says: "Mawaan and Kat are two of the funniest new voices in British comedy; in Juice and Such Brave Girls they created completely unique shows that made a real impact and were much-loved by audiences. It's a no brainer to have them back for a second time!."

Phil Clarke, Managing Director for VAL says: "I'm delighted that the BBC is bringing back Juice and Such Brave Girls from sparkling new comedy talents Mawaan and Kat. Both shows are fresh and highly original with something very funny and contemporary to say."

Juice is a surreal comedy that follows Jamma (Mawaan Rizwan) on his quest for attention as he navigates chaotic family dynamics and literally stumbles through love. Mum, Farida (Shahnaz Rizwan), always makes everything about her, Dad, Saif (Jeff Mirza), ignores him and brother, Isaac (Nabhaan Rizwan), steals the limelight at work - the one place Jamma feels like he's doing well. And when he finally does get the validation from boyfriend Guy (Russell Tovey), he can't handle it. When Jamma's emotions peak the world physically transforms around him.

In the upcoming new series everything in Jamma's life is telling him to grow up. But as he tries to get good at love, he's haunted by family, friends and his former self.

The show is written and created by Mawaan Rizwan and won an RTS award for Comedy Drama.

Juice creator Mawaan Rizwan says: "Juice is back baby! I can't wait to dive back into a magical world with magical people once again. Shoutout to everyone who's championed this beautiful bonkers show.... and everyone who hated on the bowl cut."

Such Brave Girls explores life and love in all its ugly chaos. Josie (Kat Sadler), her sister Billie (Lizzie Davidson) and their mum, Deb (Louise Brealey) attempt to claw their way towards a better life. Armed only with an ability to see the line and boldly step over it, these very brave girls finally have a chance to explore themselves. The show's writer and creator Kat Sadler recently picked up a BAFTA Craft award for Emerging Talent, Fiction.

Such Brave Girls creator Kat Sadler says: "it's a sick pleasure that these horrible characters get to live another day and I'm now contractually obliged put them through hell again. The BBC are masochists and I'm very grateful."

As well as a whole host of awards nominations the shows have both had critical acclaim:

Juice

"A raucous, eye-popping millennial queer comedy" - The Guardian

"Juice, which feels both fresh and refreshing, has a playfulness running through every scene yet doesn't neglect its emotional core." - Chortle

"Juice is cunning, emotionally cutting, and an effortless crowd-pleaser" - Gay Times

Such Brave Girls

"There is a particular joy in seeing a woman-led, female-written show that doesn't pull its punches and revels in plumbing the depths." - The Guardian

"The more you watch, the funnier, stranger and more original it starts to feel." - The Observer

"Such Brave Girls is magnificent, it is brilliantly and wonderfully (if brutally) funny." - The Mail on Sunday
