'Rugged Rugby: Conquer or Die' Premieres December 10: A Battle for Supremacy Begins
The trailer released today offers a glimpse into the adrenaline-pumping action as players push their limits to become the ultimate champions.
In this high-stakes competition, players with formidable physiques, each weighing around 100kg, collide with sheer force. Producer Chang Si-won (A Clean Sweep, Steel Troops, The Fishermen and the City) describes rugby players as "gladiators who give it all to win," referencing their indomitable spirit.
The trailer unveils the fierce determination of seven rugby teams, each vying to be crowned the strongest in Korea. Even those new to rugby will be drawn in by the sport's intensity, as the month-long competition promises drama along with the question of who will claim the victory trophy.
The teams will engage in "scrums," a battle of forces known as the flower of rugby, where players interlock and push against each other to gain possession of the ball. They will also score "tries" by grounding the ball in the in-goal area to earn points, and participate in "kick" matches, showcasing their precision and skill.
Producer Chang Si-won, inspired by the gladiatorial arena, aimed to create a stadium that allowed players to exhibit their full potential. "I tried to show scrum, try, and kick in the league table-determining match because I thought that viewers would enjoy the games more if they understood the basic rules," he explains. With input from advisors, rugby high schools, and clubs, the rules were meticulously crafted and tested.
Sportscaster Jung Yong-keom, Korea's top sports announcer, and sports commentator Seo In-soo, the only international rugby referee in Korea, will provide play-by-play commentary. Yoon Do-hyun, lead singer of YB, serves as the music director, crafting an exciting soundtrack for the dynamic matches. "It wasn't difficult to think of Yoon Do-hyun as the music director fit for tough rugby," says Producer Chang, noting Yoon's dedication to understanding the players' stories and team dynamics.
Who will be crowned the strongest? Rugged Rugby: Conquer or Die premieres December 10, only on Netflix.
