Against the 2007 World Series Game 1, ABC is the Top Non-Sports Net Across the Adult Demos, as "Private Practice" is the No. 1 Entertainment Show in Young Adults

"Pushing Daisies" is the No. 1 Non-Sports Program at 8pm in Total Viewers And Adults 18-49, Defeating NBC's Highly Promoted Debut of "Phenomenon"

Growing from the Prior Week Across the Adult Demos Despite Going Against the Game, ABC's "Private Practice" Dominates its Regular Competitors in Adults 18-49

ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money" Increases Week to Week in Adults 18-49, Topping NBC's Competing 10pm Freshman Drama, "Life," by its Biggest Margins Yet

Wednesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

Competing against Fox's coverage of the 2007 World Series Game 1 on the evening, ABC qualified as the No. 1 "non-sports" network on Wednesday across the adult demos: AD18-34 (3.1/9), AD18-49 (3.6/9) and AD25-54 (4.2/10-tie). The Network won the night, beating the World Series, across each of the key women demographics: W18-34 (4.4/12), W18-49 (5.0/13) and W25-54 (5.6/13).

"Pushing Daisies" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Pushing Daisies" was the top non-sports draw during the 8 o'clock hour in Total Viewers (9.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.0/8), beating out NBC's high-profile series debut of "Phenomenon" on both counts (8.4 million & 2.9/8). "Daisies" won the hour with Women 18-49 (3.9/11) and Women 25-54 (4.7/12).

Despite going up against coverage of the World Series, "Pushing Daisies" held nearly all of its overall audience (96% - 9.5 million vs. 9.9 million) from the prior week, and was up week to week with Teens 12-17 (1.4/5 vs. 1.3/4) and Kids 2-11 (1.5/6 vs. 1.0/4), hitting a series high with kids.

"Private Practice" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Wednesday's No. 1 entertainment program with young adults for the fifth consecutive week, ABC's "Private Practice" took full command of its regular time period competition. In the 9 o'clock hour, ABC's "Private Practice" (4.5/11) beat CBS' "Criminal Minds" by 15% (3.9/9)and NBC's "Bionic Woman" by a best-yet margin of 36% (3.3/8). In addition to standing as the highest-rated TV series of the night in Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34, "Private Practice" was also Wednesday's No. 1 TV program overall, ahead of the World Series Game 1, across all key women demographics: W18-34 (6.2/16), W18-49 (6.5/15) and W25-54 (7.1/15).

Although it faced the World Series, "Private Practice" was up from the prior week in each of the key adult demos: AD18-34 (4.2/11 vs. 4.1/11), AD18-49 (4.5/11 vs. 4.3/11) and AD25-54 (5.0/11 vs. 4.9/11).

"Dirty Sexy Money" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money" defeated its freshman drama competition during the 10 o'clock hour, NBC's "Life," by a best-ever 1.7 million viewers (8.6 million vs. 6.9 million) and by 28% in Adults 18-49 (3.2/8 vs. 2.5/6). The new ABC series ranked No. 1 in the hour, against the World Series Game 1 and CBS' "C.S.I.: NY," with Women 18-34 (4.0/11) and Women 18-49 (4.6/12).

Opposite stiff competition, "'Dirty Sexy Money" was up week to week among Adults 18-49 (3.2/8 vs. 3.0/8) and Women 18-49 (4.6/12 vs. 4.1/11).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has more than doubled from approximately 9% at this time last year up to more than 20% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
