WEEK No. 9:

ABC won the week (w/o 11/17/08) among Adults 18-49 (3.2/8), beating the second-place networks by 7% (3.0/8 - Fox and CBS tied) and fourth-place NBC by 23% (2.6/7). It was the Net's 2nd time 3 weeks to hold the No. 1 position in the key young adult sales demographic. ABC also took first place for the week in Adults 18-34 (2.7/8), and for the 9th straight week this season registered as the No. 1 net in Women 18-34 (3.3/9) and Women 18-49 (3.9/10).

ABC posted best-since-premiere ratings among Adults 18-49 (tie), Adults 18-34, Women 18-34 and Teens 12-17 since w/o 9/22/08. Boosted by "Saturday Night Football" (Texas Tech-Oklahoma) and the "American Music Awards," the Net tallied its highest Men 18-34 number in more than 5 months since the w/o 6/9/08, with its carriage of the 2008 NBA Finals.

2008 November Sweep to date (26 of 28 nights 10/30-11/24/08), ABC is No. 1 in Adults 18-49 (3.2/8), leading second-place CBS by 7% (3.0/8), third-place NBC by 10% (2.9/8) and fourth-place Fox by 19% (2.7/7). ABC will rank No. 1 for the 4th straight November Sweep, the Network's longest winning streak during the month since the early 1990s since a streak going back to the start of the Nielsen electronic database from 1991-1994. Season to date, based on all programming, ABC ranks No. 1 among Adults 18-49 in both the Program Ratings (3.4/9 tied w/CBS) and Commercial (C3) Ratings (2.9 - Commercial Ratings + 3 Days of Playback).

Rankings: ABC claimed the week's No. 1 TV shows in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, with "Dancing with the Stars" and "Grey's Anatomy," respectively. The Net delivered 4 of the Top 15 TV shows in Adults 18-49: "Grey's Anatomy" No. 1, "American Music Awards" No. 5, "Dancing with the Stars" No. 10 and "DWTS Results" No. 15. ABC aired 3 of the Top 6 most-watched television shows overall for the week: "Dancing with the Stars" No. 1. "DWTS Results" No. 4 and "Grey's Anatomy" No. 6. In addition, "Grey's" stood as the week's No. 1 TV show across each of the key Adult demographics (AD18-34/AD18-49/AD25-54). ABC's Sunday night telecast of the "American Music Awards," which posted its best numbers in 4 years (best since 2004), finished out the week as a Top 5 TV show among key Adults, Women and Teens: A18-49 (No. 5), A18-34 (No. 5), W18-49 (No. 3), W18-34 (No. 3) and T12-17 (No. 3).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to more than 28% currently, from 21% at the same point in 2007. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
