NBA Finals On ABC Delivers Second-Highest Game 4 Overnight Rating Since 2004

The Finals Expected to Win the Night for 34th Straight Time; 22nd Consecutive NBA Finals Telecast with Double-Digit Overnight Rating

NBA Finals Game 4 on ABC - the Miami Heat defeated the San Antonio Spurs to even the series at 2-2 - generated a strong 12.0 overnight rating, which is the second-highest rated Game 4 since 2004, according to Nielsen. Game 4 is expected to mark the 34th consecutive time an NBA Finals telecast has won the night for all of television and is the 22nd consecutive time it has delivered double-digit overnight ratings.

Game 4 peaked with a 14.1 rating from 11-11:30 p.m. ET. Additionally, the telecast scored strong local market ratings, including a 43.7 San Antonio and a 34.2 in Miami, both of which are the highest ratings of the 2013 NBA Finals in those markets.

The KIA NBA Countdown pre-game show averaged a 4.5 overnight rating, up 15 percent from last year's Game 4 pre-game show (3.9).

Digital growth continues

The Finals on ABC live through special simulcasts on ESPN3 continues to grow, with Game 4 logging the largest NBA game of the season to date with nearly 14 million total minutes and an average minute audience of 82,500 across computers, smartphones, tablets and Xbox (source: Adobe SiteCatalyst). Additionally, NBA content across ESPN digital platforms generated over 68 million total minutes, half of which were consumed on mobile properties. NBA content on ESPN.com also logged an average minute audience of 15,800 (up 24 percent compared to Game 4 in 2012).

The 2013 NBA Finals will continue with Game 5 on Sunday, June 16, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, ESPN Radio, ESPN Deportes and ESPN3. The telecast will be preceded by KIA NBA Countdown at 7:30 p.m. on ABC and ESPN3.
