Week No. 14
During the final complete week of 2013 (w/o 12/23/13), ABC finished No. 1 or No. 2 among the major nets on 6 of 7 nights in Adults 18-49. The week's averages were inflated by high-rated NFL coverage on Sunday, with primetime football overruns on both Fox and CBS, as well as a big Sunday Night Football game on NBC. In fact excluding sports, ABC won the week by double digits in Adults 18-49 (1.1/3), beating CBS by 10% (1.0/3), NBC by 22% (0.9/3) and Fox by 83% (0.6/2).
· ABC grew its overall audience from the same week last year for the 4th week in a row (+5% - 4.2 million vs. 4.0 million) and held steady in Adults 18-49.
Monday
ABC was the No. 1 broadcaster on Monday in Total Viewers (4.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.3/4).
"Shrek the Halls" (8:00-8:30 p.m. - 4.6 million and 1.1/4 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., ABC's 2nd encore this season of "Shrek the Halls" was up over the comparable year-ago telecast (on 12/24/12) in Total Viewers (+39% - 4.6 million vs. 3.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (+10% - 1.1/4 vs. 1.0/4).
"A Chipmunk Christmas" (8:30-9:00 p.m. - 4.3 million and 1.1/4 in AD18-49):
At 8:30 p.m., ABC's encore of "A Chipmunk Christmas" more than doubled its year-ago telecast (on 12/22/12) in Total Viewers (+105% - 4.3 million vs. 2.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (+120% - 1.1/4 vs. 0.5/2). "A Chipmunk Christmas" stood as Monday's No. 1 broadcast show with Kids 2-11.
"The Great Christmas Light Fight" (9:00-11:00 p.m. - 5.0 million and 1.3/4 in AD18-49):
Building on its lead-in at 9:00 p.m., ABC's "The Great Christmas Light Fight" finale surged week to week by 25% in Total Viewers (5.0 million vs. 4.0 million) and by 30% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/4 vs. 1.0/3). Growing from first hour to its second hour in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, ABC's "The Great Christmas Light Fight" (5.2 million and 1.3/4) beat out NBC's return of "Hollywood Game Night" (3.5 million and 1.0/3) from 10:00-11:00 p.m.
Tuesday
On Christmas Eve Tuesday, ABC led its nearest broadcast competition by 18% in Adults 18-49 with encore airings of both the animated and live-action versions of "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (1.3/5 vs. 1.1/4 for NBC with a 3-hour telecast of "It's a Wonderful Life"). The live-action version (1.3/5) and the animated version (1.2/5) stood as the night's Top 2 broadcasts with young adults.
· ABC was up on the year-ago Christmas Eve by 24% in Total Viewers (4.1 million vs. 3.3 million) and by 30% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5 vs. 1.0/4). In fact, ABC posted its strongest young adult number and its 2nd-most-watched Christmas Eve performance in 5 years - since 12/24/08.
Wednesday
With repeat comedies from 8:00-10:00 p.m. into an encore "Nashville," ABC was the No. 1 broadcaster on Christmas Night in Adults 18-49, leading runners-up NBC and CBS by 29% (0.9/3 vs. 0.7/2). ABC's "The Middle" (1.3/4) and "Modern Family" (1.3/4) tied as the top-rated broadcast show on Wednesday night.
Thursday
ABC ranked No. 2 on Thursday among the major nets and was up over the year-ago night (12/27/12) by 42% in Total Viewers (5.1 million vs. 3.6 million) and by 22% in Adults 18-49 (1.1/3 vs. 0.9/3).
"Shark Tank" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 5.7 million and 1.3/4 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., ABC's repeat "Shark Tank" took second in its hour to CBS' comedies ("The Big Bang Theory"/"The Millers") in Total Viewers (5.7 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.3/4), more than doubling NBC's "Parks and Recreation" (2.0 million and 0.6/2) and more than tripling Fox's "Glee" (1.5 million and 0.4/1). In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 (tie), it was "Shark Tank's" strongest repeat performance this season.
· "Shark Tank" improved its time period year to year in Total Viewers (+24% - 5.7 million vs. 4.6 million) and Adults 18-49 (+8% - 1.3/4 vs. 1.2/4).
"Mysteries of the Castle: Beyond Downton Abbey" (9:00-11:00 p.m. - 4.8 million and 1.0/3 in AD18-49):
From 9:00-11:00 p.m., ABC's "Mysteries of the Castle: Beyond Downton Abbey" on a special "20/20" outdrew NBC's competing "Women of SNL" special by 17% in Total Viewers (4.8 million vs. 4.1 million) and ranked No. 1 across key Women against its CBS and NBC competition. In addition, the show made ABC the most-watched TV network overall from 9:00-10:00 p.m. (5.2 million).
· The special "20/20" improved the 2-hour time period for ABC year to year by wide margins in Total Viewers (+55% - 4.8 million vs. 3.1 million), Adults 18-49 (+43% - 1.0/3 vs. 0.7/2) and Adults 25-54 (+30% - 1.3/3 vs. 1.0/3).
Friday
With repeat comedies ("Last Man Standing"/"Neighbors") and a repeat "Shark Tank" leading into "20/20," ABC ranked No. 1 among the major nets on Friday in Adults 18-49 (1.0/4-tied w/CBS). ABC's encore "Shark Tank" stood as Friday's top-rated show with young adults on the major networks.
Saturday
Boosted by the Jennifer Aniston theatrical "Just Go with It" from 8:00-10:30 p.m., ABC finished as the No. 1 broadcast network on Saturday night in Adults 18-49 (0.9/3).
Sunday
"America's Funniest Home Videos" (7:00-8:00 p.m. - 5.8 million and 1.1/3 in AD18-49):
From 7:00-8:00 p.m., ABC's replay "America's Funniest Home Videos" gained 12% in Total Viewers (5.8 million vs. 5.2 million) from its year-ago telecast and held steady in Adults 18-49 (1.1/3).
· "AFHV" drew its biggest repeat audience since April and tied its best Adult 18-49 encore since March - since 4/14/13 and 3/17/13, respectively.
"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (8:00-11:00 p.m. - 3.7 million and 1.1/3 in AD18-49):
ABC's rebroadcast of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" improved its 3-hour time slot by double digits from the same Sunday last year (with "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix") in Total Viewers (+23% - 3.7 million vs. 3.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (+38% - 1.1/3 vs. 0.8/2).
· "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" grew over its most recent telecast on ABC by 12% in Total Viewers and by 10% in Adults 18-49 (3.3 million and 1.0/4 on 7/23/11).
· Head to head from 9:00-11:00 p.m., ABC's encore movie outdelivered CBS' "The 36th Annual Kennedy Center Honors" by 22% in Adults 18-49 (1.1/3 vs. 0.9/2). Please Note: CBS had the advantage of an NFL overrun boosting its primetime line-up.
