NBC Leads the Season in 18-49 by 0.3 of a Point, Biggest Lead for Any Net at This Point in Six Years; NBC Also Matches Its Highest Average Rating 17 Weeks Into the Season in Six Years

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - Jan. 22, 2014 - For the week of Jan. 13-19, NBC has averaged a 1.3 rating, 4 share in adults 18-49 and 4.6 million viewers overall, according to "live plus same day" viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.

Versus the same week last year, NBC is up 8% in adults 18-49 (to a 1.3 rating from a 1.2), up 11% in adults 18-34 (1.0 vs. 0.9), up 7% in adults 25-54 (1.6 vs. 1.5) and up 23% in total viewers (4.6 million viewers vs. 3.7 million).

NBC's top-rated shows of the week in 18-49 included: Monday's "The Blacklist" (#10 among primetime programs on the Big 4 nets), Monday's "American Ninja Warrior" special (tied for #22), Tuesday's "Chicago P.D." (tied for #25) and Tuesday's "The Biggest Loser" (tied for #28, rankings exclude sports pre- and post-game shows).

NBC leads the season by 0.3 of a rating point in 18-49 (with a 2.9 rating vs. second-place CBS's 2.6), the biggest margin for any network 17 weeks into the season in six years (since Fox led by 0.3 of a point in 2007-08). NBC's 2.9 matches the net's top rating at this point in the season in six years (since a 3.3 in 2007-08).

Through 17 weeks of the season, NBC ranks #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49 and is also #1 in adults 18-34, adults 25-54, men 18-49 and 25-54 and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 (including a tie for #1 with CBS in women 25-54).

In total viewers, NBC ranks #2 for the season with an average of 9.3 million viewers, which is its biggest overall audience 17 weeks into the season in seven years (since 2006-07, 9.9 million). Versus one year ago, NBC is up 11% season to date in total viewers (9.3 million vs. 8.4 million).

Primetime averages for the week of Jan. 13-19 in adults 18-49 are: Fox, 5.7/16; CBS, 1.5/4; ABC, 1.4/4; NBC, 1.3/4; and CW, 0.6/2. In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: Fox, 17.2 million; CBS, 8.4 million; ABC, 5.2 million; NBC, 4.6 million; and CW, 1.6 million.

Season-to-date averages are: NBC, 2.9/9; CBS, 2.6/7; Fox, 2.5/7; ABC, 2.2/6; and CW, 0.8/2. In overall total viewers, the season averages are: CBS, 11.3 million; NBC, 9.3 million; ABC, 7.7 million; Fox, 7.4 million; and CW, 1.9 million.

NBC highlights for the week of Jan. 13-19:

Monday: "American Ninja Warrior: USA vs. Japan" (1.9/5 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. ET) scored "Ninja Warrior's" highest rating since July 23, 2012, beating every telecast from this past summer. In the time period, "American Ninja Warrior: USA vs. Japan" ranked #1 among the Big 4 nets in men 18-34 with a 1.8 rating, which matches the show's highest rating ever in that demo. From its first half-hour to its fourth, "American Ninja Warrior: USA vs. Japan" grew by 41% in 18-49 (to a 2.2 from a 1.5) and during its fourth half-hour from 9:30-10 p.m., "American Ninja Warrior" tied Fox's "Sleepy Hollow" and CBS's "Mom" (2.2 rating each).

With its first original telecast in six weeks and its first original with no "Voice" lead-in, "The Blacklist" (2.5/7 in adults 18-49, 9.3 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) decisively won the hour among ABC, CBS and ABC in adults 18-49, doubling CBS's time-period premiere of "Intelligence" (1.2/3) and topping ABC's "Castle" (1.9/5) by a 26% margin. In the time period, "The Blacklist" was #1 or tied for #1 in every key measure among those dramas. "The Blacklist" scored the #1 drama rating of the night on the Big 4 in 18-49 and was also the #1 drama in total viewers. "The Blacklist" was up 67% in 18-49 versus NBC's January 2013 average in the time period, also without a "Voice" lead-in (2.5 vs. 1.5), and was up 118% in total viewers (9.3 million vs. 4.3 million).

L+3 Time-Shifting: "Blacklist" grew by 61% in 18-49 rating (to a 4.08 from a 2.54) going from these next-day "live plus same" ratings to "live plus seven day," the third-biggest "Blacklist" percentage increase to date. In total viewers, "Blacklist" incrased by 50% (to 13.994 million from 9.347 million), the second-biggest percentage increase to date for "Blacklist" in total viewers. L+7 Time-Shifting: Fourth-quarter originals of "The Blacklist" added 2.1 rating points or 68% on average to these next-day "live plus same day" ratings when Nielsen issued "live plus seven day" results (to a 5.2 from a 3.1) and grew by 6.1 million viewers overall (17.2 million persons vs. 11.1 million).

Despite the absence of "The Voice" from its lineup, NBC finished in a four-way tie for #1 Monday among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49 (2.1 rating each).

Tuesday: "The Biggest Loser" (1.7/5 in 18-49, 5.6 viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. ET) tied for #1 in the time period in women 18-34 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox and ranked #2 among those nets in women 18-49 and 25-54. "Biggest Loser" equaled last week's 18-49 rating and is up 2% week to week in total viewers (5.6 million vs. 5.5 million).

"Chicago Fire" (1.8/5 in 18-49, 6.8 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) finished within 0.2 of a rating point of the time-period lead ("Person of Interest," 2.0/6) and won the hour in adults 18-34, women 18-34 and women 18-49 among ABC, CBS and NBC. "Chicago Fire" more than doubled ABC's week two of "Killer Women" in adults 18-49 (0.7/2) and beat the ABC series in every key measure. Despite the 10 p.m. hour, "Chicago Fire" maintained or increased its rating from half-hour to half-hour in every key measure. L+7 Time-Shifting: Fourth-quarter originals of "Chicago Fire" added 1.2 rating points or 55% on average to these next-day "live plus same day" ratings when Nielsen issued "live plus seven day" results (to a 3.4 from a 2.2).

NBC finished #2 for the night in adults 18-49 against all original competition on the Big 4 and tied for #1 in adults 18-34.

Wednesday: "Revolution" averaged a 1.3/4 in adults 18-49 and 4.8 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET against the premiere of Fox's "American Idol." L+7 Time-Shifting: Fourth-quarter originals of "Revolution" added 1.0 rating points or 67% on average to these next-day L+SD results when Nielsen issued L+7 figures (to a 2.5 from a 1.5).

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (1.4/4 in adults 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall from 9-10:01 p.m. ET) built by on its lead-in from "Revolution" by 7% in 18-49 rating and by 14% in total viewers (5.4 million vs. 4.8 million). "SVU" held steady or grew in every key measure from half-hour to half-hour. L+7 Time-Shifting: Fourth-quarter originals of "Law & Order: SVU" added 1.0 rating points or 53% on average to these next-day L+SD ratings when Nielsen issued L+7 results (to a 2.9 from a 1.9).

"Chicago P.D." (1.5/4 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) built by 7% on its lead-in from "Law & Order: SVU," up from the prior week's 5% decline versus lead-in. "Chicago P.D." outrated ABC's "Nashville" (1.3/4) in adults 18-49, as well as adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and total viewers. In adults 18-34, "Chicago P.D." tied for #1 in the time period among ABC, CBS and NBC (with CBS's "CSI," 1.2 rating each). In its first two weeks, "Chicago P.D." has now generated NBC's two best 18-49 results in the time period, excluding "Saturday Night Live" specials, since Sept. 25, 2013. L+3 Time-Shifting: "Chicago P.D." added 49% or 0.71 of a point to its next-day "live plus same day" 18-49 rating (to a 2.17 in L+3 from a 1.46 in L+SD) and 2.292 million viewers overall (7.797 million vs. 5.505 million).

Thursday: "Community" (1.1/3 in adults 18-49, 3.1 million viewers overall from 8-8:30 p.m. ET) equaled last season's third telecast in adults 18-49 (1.1 vs. 1.1 on Feb. 21, 2013). "Community" finished within 15% of its season premiere of two weeks earlier (1.1 vs. 1.3 on Jan. 2), after decling by 42% from week one to week three last year (1.1 on Feb. 21, 2013 vs. a 1.9 on Feb. 7). L+3 Time-Shifting: The previous week's "Community" added 29% or 0.40 of a point to its next-day "live plus same day" 18-49 rating in "live plus three day" results (to a 1.77 in L+3 from a 1.37 in L+SD).

"Parks and Recreation" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 3.1 million viewers overall from 8:30-9:01 p.m. ET) built on its "Community" lead-in by 9% in adults 18-49. In the time period, "Parks" ranked #2 among the Big 4 nets in adults 18-34 and men 18-34. L+7 Time-Shifting: Fourth-quarter originals of "Parks and Recreation" added 0.6 of a rating point or 50% on average to these next-day L+SD figures when Nielsen issued L+7 results (to a 1.8 from a 1.2).

On the night of Fox's "American Idol" Thursday debut, "Sean Saves the World" averaged a 0.8/2 in 18-49 and 2.7 million viewers overall at 9:01 p.m. ET and "The Michael J. Fox Show" earned a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 2.0 million viewers overall at 9:30. L+7 Time-Shifting: Fourth-quarter originals of "Sean Saves the World" added 0.3of a rating point or 27% on average to these next-day L+SD results when Nielsen issued L+7 figures (to a 1.4 from a 1.1), while "The Michael J. Fox Show" grew by 0.6 of a point or 46% (1.9 vs. 1.3).

"Parenthood" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 4.0 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m.) tied for #1 in adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. among ABC, CBS and NBC in 18-49, and is #1 outright among those networks in all key adult-women demos. In total viewers, this week's 3.981 million is the second-best "Parenthood" since Oct. 17, trailing over that span only last week's 4.256 million. L+7 Time-Shifting: Fourth-quarter originals of "Parenthood" added 1.0 rating points or 77% on average to these next-day L+SD ratings when Nielsen issued L+7 results (to a 2.3 from a 1.3).

Friday: "Dateline NBC" (1.5/5 in 18-49, 7.0 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) equaled the show's highest Friday adult 18-49 rating in more than a year, since scoring a 1.7 on Dec. 28, 2012. Half-hour to half-hour, "Dateline" generated gains of 14% in adults 18-49 (to a 1.6 from a 1.4) and 16% in adults 25-54 (2.2 vs. 1.9).

"Grimm" (1.5/5 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall at 9 p.m. ET) grew 15% week to week in 18-49 (to a 1.5 from a 1.3), to match its top rating since Dec. 6. In total viewers, the week-to-week gain is 7% (5.7 million vs. 5.3 million). With its 1.5 rating, "Grimm" tied for the #1 scripted rating of the night on the Big 4 (equaling Fox's "Bones" and CBS's "Hawaii Five-0"). L+7 Time Shifting: Fourth-quarter originals of "Grimm" nearly doubled in "live plus seven day" vs. "live plus same day" results in adults 18-49 (+93%, to a 2.7 from a 1.4). The Dec. 13 "Grimm" telecast grew by +117% going from these next-day L+SD results to L+7 figures (to a 2.6 from a 1.2).

"Dracula" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 2.8 million viewers overall at 10 p.m. ET) was up week to week by 0.2 of a point or 29% in adults 18-49 (to a 0.9 from a 0.7), to equal its average rating for the show's prior six episodes. In total viewers, "Dracula" grew week to week by 13% (2.8 million vs. 2.5 million). L+7 Time-Shifting: Fourth-quarter originals of "Dracula" grew 67% in "live plus seven day" vs. "live plus same day" in 18-49 (to a 2.0 from a 1.2).

Saturday: An encore telecast of "Chicago P.D." (0.5/2 in 18-49, 2.7 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m.) ranked #2 in the time period among the Big 4 networks in total viewers.

A rebroadcast of "Saturday Night Live," with host John Goodman and musical guest Kings of Leon (0.8/2 in 18-49, 2.6 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) grew or held steady from half-hour to half-hour in every key measure, including a gain of 14% in adults 18-49 (to a 0.8 rating from a 0.7).

Sunday: "Dateline NBC" (0.8/2 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall) grew from its first half-hour to its second by 67% in adults 18-49 (to a 1.0 from a 0.6), 44% in adults 25-54 (1.3 vs. 0.9) and 23% in total viewers (4.7 million vs. 3.8 million).

The NBC Movie of the Week "Bridesmaids" averaged a 0.9/2 in 18-49 and 3.2 million viewers overall from 8-11 p.m. ET. For its third hour from 10-11 p.m. ET "Bridesmaids" ranked #2 among the Big 4 in adults 18-49, behind only Fox's NFL-boosted results. From its first hour to its third, "Bridesmaids" grew by 71% in adults 18-49 (to a 1.2 from a 0.7), 67% in adults 25-54 (1.5 vs. 0.9) and 46% or nearly 1.3 million persons in total viewers (4.0 million vs. 2.8 million).
